I think that's @Wild self 's point and you're proving it. Right there you're defining this man as successful because of the money he made and not factoring in how he got it. His story is crazy no doubt but I wouldn't call him successful especially considering all the immoral things he had to do and the lengthy prison sentence it ended with.
