So not only was he biting Nas he couldn't even use his own baby pic, had to go to some talent agency and find a black baby

it's corny because when Nas did it it was original and authentic. It wasn't just Nas as a kid. It was him at 9 years old with a look of a disillusioned adult. And that look perfectly summerized the all album. With Nas who was barely 20 but talking like a 40 year old vet. And you had the contrast between the child and the projects
Bad Boy not only took the all concept, but since they didn't have a picture that could fit, they decided to create one artificialy. That's like run a casting to imitate Da Vinci's La Joconde and try to find a girl that could reproduce the mysterious smile. No matter how hard you try, you can match the original because all the spontaneity is gone

what did nas say that was so deep? or how did he sound 40?/

BIG has admitted to biting the Nas cover and the that he used chronic as a blueprint for his album

A big assumption underlying all of this is that rappers actually design their own album covers. Apparently - the Illmatic cover was designed by someone else and wasn't even the first choice.
