I have a bad feeling we'll look back at Cole's career as a big missed opportunity and question whether he was truly even capable of making dope shyt. Not hating, and I hope to god I'm wrong...but I'm seeing a lot of red flags brehs...
1. He's arrogant as fukk: Every rapper is arrogant sure, but Cole doesn't seem to listen to nobody. He got validated when Work Out became a hit, but most of the other singles on that album were trash. Plus he thinks he's smarter than everyone
2. His production ain't all that: He thinks he's a great producer and spurns big beats because of that. Power Trip is nice but brehs, them drums are still weak and where's the bass? It just doesn't knock like it could. Listen to how hard Started From The Bottom is, sonically. I like Power Trip more, but that Drake song has a certain thump to it that's missing from Cole's shyt.
3. He thinks he's bigger than he is: I bet his soul burns slow that Power Trip isn't up on the charts near Started From The Bottom. They came out at the same damn time basically, that wasn't a coincidence. Sometimes you need to fall back and let the label cook. I think he released that song too early, because it was fully done (see
#2 ). The song is doing well but it could have done so much better with a video, some interviews, etc.
