More than half a million undocumented immigrants are expected to be eligible for the new opportunity to “parole in place.” Immigrants must have been in the U.S. for more than 10 years, have no prior deportation history and have a spouse or parent who is an American citizen as of June 17 to qualify.

Those who meet the criteria can apply for approval from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS); those approved — which Biden said would be contingent on passing a criminal background check — will then have three years to apply for lawful permanent residency. Undocumented spouses are already eligible for legal residency, but doing so previously required them to leave the country, a process that could take years.

Came here to smh at dems, but this is such an edge-case application , it’s not worth being news.

According to the release —

“The June 18 announcement specified that the new program will be available only to people who:

• Have continuously resided in the United States since June 17, 2014;
• Were physically present in the United States on June 17, 2024;
• Have been legally married to a U.S. citizen as of June 17, 2024;
• Entered the United States without admission or parole and do not currently hold any lawful immigrant or nonimmigrant status;
• Have not been convicted of any disqualifying criminal offense;
• Do not pose a threat to national security or public safety; and
• Merit a favorable exercise of discretion.”

So it applies to illegals that are married to US citizens, who technically are eligible for permanent residency, but they can’t get it since it requires a consular interview in their home countries, and once they leave the US they’re banned for 10 years.
