This isnt how voters behave and the Democratic leadership cant seem to figure this out. Logically every US election is a binary choice. But in reality an election is a referendum on the incumbent. The voters either support you, vote for the other guy, or stay home.

In the broad picture, there's really no scenario in which Trump would be better for the country than Biden. In literally every possible way, Trump is far worse -- not just in the immediate, but in the years long after he's gone.

And while I don't think that this war between Hamas and Israel should be the deciding factor in this election, I have to concede that it is becoming clearer that for young people especially, this could cause them to abstain from voting altogether -- even if they won't directly vote for the Republican Party.

The fact is that younger voters typically lean to the left, and you cannot continue to dismiss the one issue they seemingly care about the most right now.
Wages take time to fix. Housing takes time to fix. Even student loan forgiveness takes time before that impact is felt. You aren't going to fix climate change tomorrow.

But halting support for this war could be done immediately.
If the Democrats refuse to recognize that they're alienating their base...they will have no one to blame but themselves this November.

It’s insane to me. I mean I know that Israel has this massive influence of on US politics to drastically understate it but he just seems to be stubbornly wedded to the politics of like 30 years ago.

Now the rational way to look at it is like this: Biden has been abysmal on the Palestinian issue. No doubt about that. But it will be him or Trump. And Trump:

Son in law openly taking about building beach front property in Gaza.

Trump has said Bibby should finish the job. Meaning he’d let him do whatever. No aid for refugees even harsher military operations and no chance of even a pause in military funding.

Numerous Republicans have talked about nuking Gaza wiping them all out etc.

So both are bad the question then becomes who will be exponentially worse?

And aside from Gaza.

Just a few recent headlines:

Republicans want to create a national database to monitor pregnant women.

Republicans in Ohio kill bill to raise minimum wage.

Republican move to loosen child labor laws calling children lazy.

GOP lawmakers across the country have resisted raising the marriage age.

Judge blocks Biden attempt to cap late credit card fees.

Congress voted against funding cure for cancer to block Biden win.

And on and on. Look I’m no fan of Biden or corporate Democrats. However anyone who thinks ceding the country to Republicans to teach the Dems a lesson just doesn’t get how much worse it can and will get under them.

We have a binary choice in this country. It sucks but that’s it. Therefore harm reduction, especially in the age of Trump and the outright fascist GOP is the only option for the non in denial.
