for the harbaugh and now Moore offense, they need an powerhouse OL that can run block like NFL caliber, RBs who fall forward and can break away, and most importantly, a vanilla QB who makes no mistakes and takes little risks and can throw 2-3 deep passes a game at most...every QB has been that for a reason and the closer they are to that, the more effective the offense is. This was Jake Ruddock and JJ McCarthy.
The further you get away from that, like Cade, Wilton Speight, and John O'Korn, the offense falls apart. In short...Orji is not in that prototype and they're scared of mistakes, and got gun shy leading to the season.

I think it's clear that Michigan isn't as good of a team as Texas is this year but when you have an A1 home environment it should at least help offset some of that.
