the commentary now is that this kinda reinforces gender roles since they are taking a tomboy and making her gay when they could have just introduced a more common feminine lesbian into the show as a new character. i can see that perspective...

I feel like it feeds into the stereotype that tomboyish women who don't fit into the social norm of feminine beauty, are basically butch lesbians.

Her being a tomboyish straight woman who wears the pants in her marriage seems more consistent with whatever message they wanna send, than just turning her into a big dike bytch with kids.
