NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Yes they mattered then, but people kill RD for not getting 5 but call IDAH classic when it didn’t get 5 either
People call RTD a classic and it didn’t get 5 either. So what nikka? RD not getting 5 mics ain’t even the argument against it. It’s always been about it’s lack of commercial OR cultural impact and it being rewritten as this undisputed groundbreaking album. The album was always fire.

TYRONE GA!
Why's that a surprise? It was recognized as an instant classic that changed the direction of East Coast hip hop

RD was seen as a very dope album but was overlooked for years and had minimal impact. It took years of lobbying by Jay and his fans for RS to reach "consensus classic" status

exactly. t

LOTS of great albums in 96. RD was def good, but wasn't even the best album that YEAR.

Makaveli
Muddy Waters
Hell on Earth
It Was Written
AEOM
Bow Down
ATLiens
Piece Of Mind
Illadelph Halflife
Nocturnal
Riding Dirty
Ice Cream Man
Stakes Is High
Beats Rhymes and Life
Hall of Game
The Resurrection

this new age revisionist history shyt to make RD seem like it was that much better than what it was is corny. And you can def tell it's being done by cats who weren't even around then to know what it was like.

If reasonable doubt was forgettable
Vo1 was trash
Vol 2 overrated

how did Jay get the spot over Nas, Wu, X, Mase etc…

all these guys sold more and people loved their music off the rip. How did Jay get that spot with a mediocre catalog?

@FreshAIG @SunZoo can one of y’all break this down

You exaggerating again :umad:

Nobody is saying RD was forgettable, Vol. 1 was trash. I will say Vol. 2 is overrated but it's still a good album.

When you say "got that spot over Nas, Wu, X, Mase" what you referring to exactly?

Damn, I love both. Damn, that's a tough one. Reasonable Doubt is more my speed when it comes to an album, in terms of the tone/lyricism...but It's Dark really fukked the whole game up and shook the world. And on top of that it was fire. fukk it, I'm going with the Dog.

This question obviously not for you if u don’t understand my question

Nah, you trying to act like there was a consensus Jay was better far as skills than all of them which there never was. And if you talking popularity, DMX was absolutely as big a star as Jay was 1998-2001 then his career fell off due to his mental and substance abuse issues. You can easily argue X was the bigger star during that stretch. Sold more records and was getting lead roles in Hollywood in movies that were actually hits
