‘Better Call Saul’: Aaron Paul In “Serious Talks” for ‘Breaking Bad’ Prequel

Aaron Paul wants to return to the Breaking Bad universe in the Vince Gilligan prequel series Better Call Saul. The series, which is set to be a prequel following Bob Odenkirk reprising his role as criminal lawyer, Saul Goodman. The AMC series is set to follow “the trials and tribulations in the time leading up to establishing his strip-mall law office in Albuquerque, New Mexico.”

Aaron Paul better call Saul? But How?
But how could Aaron Paul’s character Jesse Pinkman fit into the story if Jesse had not met Saul prior to his time with Walter White? Aaron Paul wants in, even if it doesnt make sense at first glance. The AP reports that Paul claims he has had “serious talks” showrunner Vince Gilligan about returning to reprise his role as Pinkman in the prequel series.

“Anything Vince is involved with, I’m there,” Paul says. “I owe him my entire career. And the idea of jumping into the skin of Jesse Pinkman again in his lighter days — because it’s all a prequel — it would be fun.”

Gilligan could incorporate the Pinkman character as an associate of one of the thugs that Saul Goodman takes on during his early days. This way he could appear on screen without breaking continuity as long as he doesnt share more than a glance of screen-time with Odenkirk. I don’t think a return as Pinkman could be more than a couple appearances at most because of the story logistics.

Will Dean Norris Call Saul? Probably Not In Year One
The AP also confirmed that Dean Norris will probably not reprise his role as Walter White’s DEA agent brother-in-law Hank Schrader due to his shooting obligations on CBS’ Under the Dome series. But never say never, I would bet that Better Call Saul will outlast Dome on television and when Norris is out of work, the oppurtunity to film a fun walk-on will present itself.

Not many TV actors can transcend a GOAT type show. Cranston can, I don't think Paul can. Hate to say it, but I think Pinkman will be his peak, for sure. Of course he doesn't want to give that up yet, especially if you saw the BrBa documentary that came with the final season/barrel set.

:what: at people trying to shyt on his career. He's in 5 movies in 2014, including that new Ridley Scott one. Most people would give their left nut to go from a TV series to starring next to Christian Bale and Ben Kingsley.

As far as the news itself :manny: it's not a surprise. They said it could be a prequel/sequel months ago.

I'm not trying to shyt on his career at all. I just think people will probably always think of him as Jesse Pinkman. Same way I always thought of Duchovney as Mulder, although he escaped it a bit with Californication.

I think what I should have said was it's very rare for TV stars to transition well into movies. Although that's more rare these days, with the higher quality level of TV, and there's a lot of crossover actors that do both. But the 90's and even 00's to a degree saw a ton of TV actors that could never break through into movies, and some couldn't escape people viewing them as their tv character.

I wish Aaron Paul all the best. I'll probably always think of Pinkman when I see him, but I hope I'm wrong. He's talented and I'm sure he'll go on to do great things. Esposito went from Breaking Bad to Revolution, that's all I'm saying, lol. You just never know. Anything can happen, I guess.

We're talking about two different things breh.

First off, of course he'll always be Jesse Pinkman. It is what it is. If that's the height of his career, then :manny: most actors would kill to be associated with something like "Breaking Bad". These actors ain't dumb, all of them have acknowledged "BB" is pretty much it for them. Regardless of whether or not it's true.

I'm talking about cats writing him off like :heh: "Need 4 Speed his career his over". That's not even the biggest movie he's in this year. Now, if all 5 of his movies flop, that's a different story.

I like Aaron Paul. But he most likely will never be a movie star. He could be a decent supporting actor. And maybe, and that's a big maybe, if they find the right vehicle for him he can lead a cable TV series. But Need 4 Speed is going to be trash. And Aaron Paul is a smaller supporting actor in Ridley Scott's Moses movie.

Aaron Paul might be better served to make the transition to director if that interest him.

He's playing Moses right hand man, Joshua. I don't know how they're going to tell the story of Exodus without him being a major figure, he leads the Hebrews after Moses dies.
