Damn FOX lacked balls.

Consider this.

Ice-T has been Fin Tutuola since 2000 on SVU. That's only 2 years after this show got canceled. They coulda legitimately made a whole universe out of this show if they weren't so scared of what overseas people thought.

Even crazier is how FOX was always seen as the network "that didn't give a fukk" and would do whatever they wanted. Back in the day they were the only channel that would even give minority shows a chance

According to the Unsung NY Undercover had, basically FOX was getting Superbowl money for the first time and they wanted that syndication money. The problem was that FOX felt that internationally, other countries weren't gonna be comfortable buying the rights to shows with minority leads. Long story short, catering to minority viewers was backfiring against them if they wanted to hang with the other three big networks. so shows either started getting canceled or they started trying to whiten up the casts (which is what happened here) What ruined that show wouldn't have affected it today. For all we know, without those roadblocks, it becomes part of the Law & Order Universe or it develops its own spinoffs in different cities.

So I've been thinking about this comment......

At some point, the show would have had to do a hard revamp and strip away the musical elements of the show for financial and time reasons the longer it stayed on air. Granted as you mention, they could have brought some of those characters for appearances on Law & Order or found a way to do spinoffs while keeping certain elements of the original.

The financial aspect of music rights wasn’t really a thing til way later.

they were already stripping that away during the last season (to its detriment)

The episode with the pedo I distinctly remember them using Every Little Thing I Do by Soul For Real. They used something else.
