Scammers steal "hundreds of millions" using fake unemployment claims

Washington's race to help newly laid-off residents as the coronavirus pandemicravaged the economy left it vulnerable to such scams, and last week officials hinted at the scope: Hundreds of millions of dollars were paid out in fake claims, they said. Much of it apparently went to a West African fraud ring using identities stolen in prior data breaches, such as the massive 2017 Equifax breach.

A Nigerian crime ring siphoned millions of dollars from US unemployment programs amid COVID-19 shutdowns, officials say

  • The US Secret Service has identified criminal actors targeting state unemployment funds using personal information stolen from Americans, the agency confirmed to Business Insider.
  • Some of the criminals are connected to a sophisticated Nigerian crime ring and could have already stolen hundreds of millions of dollars, according to a Secret Service memo first reported by security researcher Brian Krebs.
  • The fraudsters took advantage of states that were already struggling to process a flood of jobless claims amid the COVID-19 pandemic and related government shutdowns.
  • They primarily targeted the state of Washington, and there's also evidence of attacks in North Carolina, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Oklahoma, Wyoming, and Florida.

Non ADOS already got theirs breh ... :heh:
Seems like the distinction is necessary in a situation like this. Why would Nigerians need reparations for American slavery

On top of the fact the us is giving foreigners money to start small businesses so there's clearly a new effort to create a buffer class of immigrants between the people who have historical grevienances with the us government as it relates to compensation for slavery

Here lies the problem. Systematic racism effects every black American.

The Idea of Reparations

Reparations for the slavery is not a new idea. Before the Civil War ended, General William Tecumseh Sherman issued an order in South Carolina. He wanted 40 acres and the loan of an Army mule set aside for each former slave family. This order was never carried out. After the war, Radical Republicans in Congress passed laws requiring confiscation of former-Confederate property to provide the ex-slaves with "40 acres and a mule." In 1866, President Andrew Johnson vetoed the legislation.

The next push for reparations took place at the turn of the century. Several black organizations lobbied Congress to provide pensions for former slaves and their children. One bill introduced into the U.S. Senate in 1894 would have granted direct payments of up to $500 to all ex-slaves plus monthly pensions ranging from $4 to $15. This, and several similar bills, died in congressional committees. The pension movement itself faded away with the onset of World War I.

During the 1960s, some black leaders revived the idea of reparations. In 1969, James Forman (then head of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee) proclaimed a "Black Manifesto." It demanded $500 million from American churches and synagogues for their role in perpetuating slavery before the Civil War. Black nationalist organizations, such as the Black Panther Party and Black Muslims, also demanded reparations.

In the 1980s, a new call arose for black reparations. It was stimulated by two other movements that successfully secured payments from the U.S. government. The Supreme Court in 1980 ordered the federal government to pay eight Sioux Indian tribes $122 million to compensate for the illegal seizure of tribal lands in 1877. Then in 1988, Congress approved the payment of $1.25 billion to 60,000 Japanese-American citizens who had been interned in prison camps during World War II.

In April 1989, Council Member Ray Jenkins guided through the Detroit City Council a resolution. It called for a $40 billion federal education fund for black college and trade school students. About the same time, a conference of black state legislators meeting in New Orleans backed the idea of a federally financed education fund for descendants of slaves. Shortly afterward, Rep. John Conyers Jr. (D-MI) drafted a bill calling for the establishment of a congressional commission to study the impact of slavery on African-Americans.

Uncertain grounds
We dont care what they want. We demand we get what we're owed or else. And we're owed 14 trillion. They can start by giving us 4 trillion. And progress from there until the wealth gap between black and white people in America is closed and the wealth is equal. Either give us the wealth y'all stole from us or we go steal it back from y'all. Those are the only 2 options. They already can't take seeing black people looting getting atms and free tvs, phones, jewerly, clothes, shoes, car dealerships, hitting bank vaults for $500k. Imagine if we turned it up and started taking all our wealth back.

i believe you owe me 2.5k :shaq2:

I believe it's a hard battle but it is a battle worth fighting for and to those who don't feel the need to contribute I can respect that just respectfully stay out the way for those attempting to put forth the effort to mediate change.

Best believe at every pivotal moment in history you had someone say to another person "it won't ever happen" hell they may have died with the person who said it would never happen being correct but shyt changes as time moves forward maybe we won't see it but does that mean not putting in any effort, do you want to live your entire life never having tried?

On my death bed if I have to fail I want to say I fukking fought; hell let me die because I'm wore out from trying rather than die in peace because I never attempted anything worthwhile my entire existence.

Stop it, if non-ADOS want to make a claim, do that on your own accord. Our justice claim dates back to slavery and our subsequent multi-generational oppression.

I sincerely hope ADOS get the bag for real.

:hubie:

What I’m saying is the racism that exist in America today has and will continue to effect every black person.

Black Empowerment/Reparations For ADOS

Right. That's why you got to look out for the "we're never gonna get reparations" nikkas. They are either undercover cacs or non ados who don't qualify to get reparations so they trying to kill hope and dissipate the energy around reparations. If y'all dont think we'll get reparations just ignore reparations threads and shut up. If we think we can get reparations let us think what we think. Y'all probably was the same "there will never be a black President" ass nikkas/cacs. The same "These protests and riots and looting ain't go make them arrest and charge all 4 cops" ass nikkas/cacs. Wouldve been the same "slavery will never end. Jim Crow will never end" ass nikkas/cacs. We speaking black people getting trillions of dollars in cash payments for reparations into existence and it's gonna happen sooner than y'all think
