Terry Funk never won anything in WCW? Saw him on the ppv last night. Would've assumed he had some accomplishment there.

Shawn one of if not the most charismatic wrestler there might've ever been. His promo work was decent of course not on Austin and Rock levels. He's an excellent performer that could give good matches with the heavyweights and the lightweights. He had a lot of accomplishments but of course that was all mostly under the wwe machine so who knows how we would've fared all over the world. Terry Funk is a hardcore legend. His wwf run was near the end of his career but I know he had a long and storied career. This one might be one of the toughest matchups. Not like Austin vs rock but top 3 in this round. Both I would say had close first round matchup but second round looked much easier. I'll have to give this some thought to see if Funk can persuade me differently.

The biggest mistake people do with God is thinking his mid 90's hardcore stuff is what defined him as a performer. It's very hard to get Terry doing crazy shyt out of people's minds as the only thing he did in the ring. Considering how 90's wrestling is most people's prime exposure to wrestling and that WWE is THE main promotion in the world, there's no doubt Michaels will win this.

BUT, God is the better wrestler :manny:

-I think him and Michaels have the same mentality in terms of doing "whatever it takes to entertain" an audience. I for one think Funk is literally the best of all time in that regard. Dude could do technical wrestling, hardcore wrestling, comedy wrestling and incredibly emotional filled matches all depending on what the show needed from him. I think fans would say the same about HBK but going back and watching Funk in the 70's and 80's puts him on another level in this regard.

-He was an amazing heel AND an amazing babyface.

-Incredible tag team wrestler. I think Michaels is severely underrated on this front to be fair, but again, God's stuff is just on another level. His All Japan work with Dory is :mindblown: crazy good.

-Awesome fukking promo. Dude legit made you feel he was insane and ANYTHING could happen when he was involved.

-GOAT free lancer. Worked everywhere and everyone and except for 90's WCW (and mid 80's WWF), he left every placed he worked in a better state because he either worked an angle, a program or a lengthy run that either elevated their product, their business or new stars (and in some cases, all of that combined).

-One of the few cases where longevity actually works in his favor. 4 fukking decades of work that's worth watching. That's fukking insane. Even broken down, crazy grandpa Terry Funk manages to somehow make his matches interesting/fun to watch.

-Always ahead of his time. You see stuff like his match against Jumbo in 76' and it has shyt that wouldn't be prevalent in wrestling years down the line, same with some of the late 70's tag team work. And even though he was not not the prime innovator, he was one of the pioneers of hardcore brawling during the 70's in Detroit and other territories doing stuff with Shiek, Abby dikk the Bruiser and that crew.

-He's one of the masters of wrestling fukkery.

-WE DON'T EVEN HAVE LIKE 95% OF THE FOOTAGE OF HIS PRIME IN THE UNITED STATES. And the very few stuff that is out there in full is always A+ and a hidden gem that was worth the wait. This is like if Michaels' whole 90's career was lost except for a dozen of matches and you still had decades worth of elite level work.

So yeah, God takes my vote :manny:

I vote for God over anybody left in the tournament

I'm a Shawn Michael's fan but Terry Funk is in my top 5

Even if you say Shawn is a better wrestler, the other categories (promo & personality) Terry wins those easily

Damn near everything Shawn is good at, Funk was better at at some point in his career, and Funk was either good at or an outright innovator in categories of wrestling Shawn never touched in his career. When Shawn is a legitimate on-screen and off-screen asset to every major company in America in his mid-50s, then we can start to make this comparison.

Funk by a mile.

(Note: I'd LOVE to see how people on here would react to the credible arguments against HBK's greatness peddled on boards like DVDVR and PWO...)
