You really can’t go wrong either way IMO. Rey has stayed relevant through longevity, and while not reinventing his look or character much, has been in top shape for years and can still perform at a very high level. His match with Brock at Survivor Series being a big example. Not to mention him being completely revolutionary in the 90’s and even early 00’s.

Jericho outclasses Rey in character work and promos, but has progressively fallen off in ring, plus I always enjoyed him more as a character than a worker outside that suit wearing run if I’m keeping it real :yeshrug:I’m going with Rey but I expect the majority to vote Jericho and I’m not mad at that

...You know what happens when you put two all time great Cruiserweights against one another in the third round, @2 Cold Taurus ?

You know what happens when you force people to choose between two men THIS great at their craft? Do you?

Do you know what happens when you put Y2J up against Rey Mysterio?! DO YOU?!

Can’t go wrong with either. Giving it to Jericho due to longevity combined with consistently reinventing himself. Any time Jericho got stale, he went away, made you miss him and reinvented himself. There was a stretch between 05-10 where I just didn’t care for Rey at all. He won the title in 06, but was getting pummeled by everybody with a pulse.

He may outclass him as a total package but Rey Mysterio is really one of a kind. He was better than everybody in 96..at 21. Whole different level. Definition of innovation and being so great in the ring, he got more over every week. This was before the RVDs and any of that kind of shyt.

LMAO & Rey being a fukkin heavyweight champion. WWE lost their damn minds giving him the strap
Yeah I wasn’t watching anymore at the time, but when I heard he was world champ I was like :mjtf:

Great innovative wrestler but nobody that small should be world champ. It’s just not believable. I’m not against smaller guys like HBK and Jericho being champ, but you gotta draw the line somewhere. Rey Mysterio looks like half the crowd could whip his ass.

I always thought about it like this: pro wrestling is an openweight combat sport (albeit worked). In this world, it is believable that Rey, or someone with his style, may be fast enough, smart enough, and savvy enough that he could string together a number of moves and pin a larger man for three seconds. Sure, he couldn't kick half the roster's ass, but you're not asking who the toughest guy is, you're asking who the better wrestler within the confines of the sporting event is. If we're thinking the way you two are and take it to its logical conclusion, then Big Show should have been champion forever (not saying it shouldn't be a consideration, just saying).

I always thought Rey did a tremendous job of portraying himself not as a tough guy who can run through everyone, but a guy using his agility, invention, and wits to win matches. It's even better when he's supposed to be fighting angry during his storylines: then you get all that with added intensity and edge.

I just rewatched his World Title match with JBL last week, and he never looked like he was just booked to win, but like he persevered through a hellish beating and came through like a babyface champion would. He can't be your top guy because of his size, but a run or two with the belt given certain circumstances seemed fine to me after 2005.

Masters was never ready, especially back in 2006. He was much better after he got fired, worked the indies, and came back in 2011 or so, but even then he was working like an 80s babyface 20-30 years after that style kind of went out of fashion. It didn't help that the company tore him down so completely and didn't give him a real shot when he came back, but I don't look back at his career and say he wasn't used to his capabilities.
