The Konami Code is unquestionably the GOAT cheat code. I'm still shouting out an honorable mention to the Super Sonic cheat codes in Sonic 2 though.

If it makes you feel any better, I didn't know until I found them online years later, since I grew up with the SNES and didn't have the OG Sonic games as a kid.
Games used to have crazy cheat codes back in the day
You can't do as much of that now because today, people will just find everything on the internet in a matter of minutes. Back in the day, schoolyard rumors and Nintendo Power were about all the help you had when it came to figuring out games. You were lucky if you got to take the cable from the phone to use the internet for minutes at a time. I miss those days
