Best bet for a small room and small budget is probably one of those sound bars.

But I haven't ever had a surround sound system in my life so I'll let other niccas tell it.

You can buy some quality speakers. You should invest in a receiver too.

If you're going to get an HTIB joint, try and get one with a sub that's powered separately from the receiver.

I have the 7.1 model of this and I haven't had any problems with it. Good for the price.

I was going to get the one you linked for my living room around Black Friday. Amazon and Tiger Direct had it on sale for 177.

I have an Onkyo receiver and it works great. If I were you, I'd invest in a 7.1 receiver and just get front loudspeakers and a center to begin with. And build your surround sound as you get more cash. You can get good deals at Newegg or Crutchfield. You don't need to try to get a whole system right away and if you get good quality fronts and centers it'll sound better than a POS all-in-one system.

Here's one I was looking at a few weeks ago.

@DANJA it's a lil over the 300 range you set, but it has a network receiver and is a bit more future proof than that Onkyo set.

Yeah, I wouldn't get a soundbar unless it was for my bedroom or some shyt.
