I rewatched Empire last year (hadn't seen in 10+ years) and I was still at pretty much everything from the film. It's really not close. I love Return of the Jedi but Empire is just a better film.

It made the OT better, it had a fair blend of drama, sci fi, suspense and action. But I can't really think of one movie from the series to recommend as a stand alone movie that you could just watch on the fly.

Easily the best star wars. Also interesting it made less than new hope and return of the jedi. Middle child syndrome.

Rogue One getting a lot of love from the coli kind of surprised it's in 2nd place

Thought it was good but I wouldn't put it over Revenge of the Sith or any of the OG movies. Haven't seen it since around the time it came out, might have to rewatch.

If the sequel trilogy kept this same tone, this would be the goat series.
