rhythm-al-ism

quik sounded like he channeled zapp & roger along george clinton's parliament funkadelic with that album. it sounded like he was playin' george clinton in a modern way in 98' and made one of the funkiest albums in years. the production on this album is so alive and full of life. plus, i like my music funky anyway

listen to how incredible these songs sound; funky and smooth as shyt :damn:

(great use of smokey robinson's "so in love" song)

:dj2:

"el's interlude" alone is better than most guys' albums (it's a shame we still ain't got el album produced by quik) :damn:

i mean the intro alone is a damn rollercoaster ride :lawd:

*came in to ask why Tim's Bio wasn't listed*

...and what do you mean "produced by Juvenile"??

Yeah, that Timbo album was well produced, but not quite up there with the five I mentioned in the OP. And it was a typo, I meant to type Mannie Fresh.

:scusthov: @ y'all for not giving Quik his due.

Rhythm-al-ism, not because the other albums aren't great
but because people just don't seem to see how GOOD that album is.
The production is fvcking outstanding, in my opinion it can
hang with any album on this list :yeshrug:

Exactly. The production on Rhythm-al-Ism is a landmark in music. The melodies on that album were simply ahead of their time. The second half of "El's Interlude" could down as the smoothest song in music history.

"El's Interlude" is just... :wow:

It's such a shame that this album came out a year before 2001 by Dr. Dre because I believe this album would be more appreciated if people just had more time to digest it.

It's just one of those albums that's unlikely to ever be recreated again.

What an incredible year for music. All of those albums sound great today

400 Degreez may sound a bit dated but there's no denying its influence

I wonder if that's when producers started to venture away from the analog sound... Cause albums generally don't sound like that anymore unless there's a deliberate artistic choice and a bit of a production budget IMO

I started college in 1998 and more than like you'd hear Aquemini, Moment of Truth, or Soul Survivor blasting from my room... It's hard to choose one but those were my shyt that year. Oh and I definitely fukked with 400 Degreez after seeing that HA video. I knoew Juve would make in cause I'd never seen no shyt like that.

On a pure production level, Rhythm-al-Ism easily. Listening to that shyt had you feelin so smooth, like you can just pull any broad you want :banderas:

Such a classic album, I haven't heard a rap album that smooth since :wow:

soul survivor is a weird album........the entire middle portion is god awful....the cuts at the beginning and end are some of the greatest hip hop songs I ever heard in my life.

out of that list, SS is prolly my choice

No Father To MY Style.. A Son Unique
From these choices

Beat wise: MOT, premier tapped into the hip hop gods and made a classic with this album. It kinda reminds me of premos cuban linx.

But album wise with an incredible array of beats and songs that are all pretty kuch diff than each other; aquemini. It is a crazy enjoyable listen and full of creativity. Gotta respect it.

I put these albums in same vein production wise tho:

Dmx - its dark n hell is hot (dame grease killed this album. Had he been the nephew of dee n wah, he woulda had a better career than swizz)

Cappadonna - the pillage. Wu elements really came thru for cap on this album. Few rza classics, with true master, math, goldfingaz and 4th holding it down. Rhyme wise its lacking but i can only imagine if rae used these beats for immobilarity or deck for US.

Rza - bobby digital - way ahead of its time but i dont see how people can check it and say rza/wu fell off. Holocaust. Nyc everything. Love jones. Daily routine. Domestic violence, black widow. Etc. Very good album with a dope unique sound.

Big pun - capital punishment. The production doesnt get enough love cause pun killed it but it still standabthe test of time imo.

La the darkman - heist of the century. Sleeper pick. Only Rza. Havoc. Muggs. 4th disciple and carlos broady. Mostly handled by Carlos broady. In 98 this is like the illmatic team of 94. If you havent heard this album before, check it for the production alone.
