I really don't understand how Denzel is winning this poll; He is one of my favorite actors of all time, but that movie was a PBS special, bland ass flick. There are so many more films with much more haunting portrayals of alcoholism at the center.
i think it's because it's one the best "relate-able" drunk performances we've seen.
it's hard to argue against Nicholas cage's leaving las vegas as the best drunk acting performances it great but i don't think most people know someone who's willing to blow there life savings to drink themselves to death.
at least for me i can relate to Denzel's performance. a good man, functional alcoholic, has a moment of clarity declares " he's done drinking" but despite his efforts, goes back to to alcohol...
Ok, I can respect that, but I just thought that movie was a wasted opportunity. It was just not good imo.

His performance was great in that flick... the movie itself may not have been the grestest movie about alcoholism/addiction, that doesn't take away from his performance tho...
Paul Newman in The Verdict is easily one of the best drunk/alcoholic performances...
movie had me Cheers BrehsNic Cage in Leaving Las Vegas won this fukken thread.
There is this scene where he is the liquor store and he pushing the cart and twirling while he is filling the cart up with booze.:wowwow2:
Many of my boys were like " I need to cut back on my drinking" after watching that movie.
