Like already mentioned, A Prophet is exceptional.

Others besides the obvious ones like Dark Knight, No Country, The Departed....

Mesrine 1/2
Stander
Get The Gringo
Layer Cake
The Bank Job
Gone Baby Gone

And if you want to watch a movie that pretty much deconstructs the mob/gangster life I recommend watching Outrage.

A Japanese flick with Takashi "Beat" Kitano. Slow as fukk but still interesting. Ending will have you like :merchant:

1. A Prophet
if i was a studio exec. i would be remaking this for sure

2. Departed
Scorsese/Leo/Damon/Nicholson nough said

3.The Town
Afflack went from being a joke to a great director

4. Drive
Stylish, not a great script, but very rewatchable.. Great cast

5. No Country For Old Men
Arguably the best, I just cared more about the main characters in the other 4 flicks

ones below the radar that are good
Before the Devil Knows You're Dead.... PSH a great actor
What Doesnt Kill You... another film with Ethan Hawke not great, but a realistic little crime flick

An American adaptation? :usure:

Would be a hard thing to do since U.S. prisons are different from France's prisons. Like the day leaves would have to be axed out. The would need a lot of work around that would make it a very different movie.

Movie was awful.

 The hype was sickening too. It was a sub par film no doubt. If you add in the ridiculous hype it received, it was horrible.

Anyway, to answer the question

If that movie were a song.

American Gangster - Russell Crowe Ft. Denzel Washington.

Terrible movie with a bunch of wasted screen time on court room custody battles of a character nobody was even interested in.

Wrong:manny:

And it's absolutely ridiculous to think that Russell Crowe carried that movie.

It's also ridiculous to think the whole movie was in a court room, when actually that setting was only in the last 15mins.

kinda OT, I wanted to make a thread about it but never found the time, so I'm gonna say it here. The Untouchables is the most overrated gangster movie of all fukkin time. It's not even a good movie, its awful. Kevin Costner was terrible, and the story was so fukkin inaccurate that it bordered on comedy. The roof top scene...fukk it, the entire courtroom scene was a straight up joke. Why is that movie so highly regarded?

and how the fukk did Sean Connery win an oscar for that role? :whoo: hate to see who he was up against

This.. plus we already got American Me. That' basically covered the prison/street criminal system here.
