All-time all-around, GOAT is Luccelle Ball.
But the hardest working comediane of all time is Kathy Griffin.
Whether or not you think she is funny, she has 20 full length comedy albums, Thats more than any comedian I am aware of male or female by a large margin. It dwarfs most people's catalogue.
I agree with
@MartyMcFly
Comedy is so subjective, but I'd say that right now there are
at least an equal amount of legitimately funny women as there are men (on the acting side, on the stand-up side it's a totally different animal).
Tina Fey
Amy Poehler
Kate McKinnon
Melissa McCarthy
Julia Louis-Dreyfus
Kristen Schaal
Kathryn Hahn
Kristen Wiig
All of them are legitimately funny people who can deliver (at times) various stylings of comedy and comic delivery.
From that list alone if you picked a Starting 5 and put them up against 5 male comic actors you'd be hard pressed to beat 'em*.
*Currently working, not "Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop" type shyt.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus gets alot of credit that should go to Larry David... but Tina Fey & Amy Polner do deserve that mention.
Tina Fey is one of the best tv writers (male or female) of my generation.
Kirsten Schaal was great in Flught of the Concords.
Improv, I'd say Paula Poundstone is very underrated.. but she retired after Home Movies.
Wendy Lieberman ripped off Steven Black's stichk... but later tweaked it, so her entire set revolves around an off timing that almost no comedian uses.
Its a great style, cause the punchline is
always after where you expect each joke.
I wish more chicks would develop their own style instead of biting or using generic styles.
