2 sticks of butter (1 cup)
1 cup of white sugar
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 3/4 cups of flour
1 teaspoon of baking soda
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (sometimes I add a little mexican cocoa for some extra flavor)
1 tsp of espresso powder
2 tablespoons of milk
1 1/2 cup of chocolate chips
(optional: 1 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts)
Preheat to 350°F
Cream the butter and sugars together
Stir in egg and vanilla
Mix in flour, baking soda, cocoa and milk
Stir in chocolate chips
Scoop by dough by like 1.5 tablespoon if you want big Levain style cookies (I use an ice cream scoop)
optional: roll the scooped dough in granulated sugar if you want them to look like that
(I like sugar in the raw, and sometimes use a little cardamom w the sugar too)
Place on parchment paper or a greased tray and bake for 11-15 mins.
Cool cookies for 5 minutes on the baking sheet, they'll finish cooking as they cool.
Also, during the cool time, I like to press a few more chocolate chips into the tops of the warm cookies (I didn't in that pic though).
