Feel like TV shows can be a trap if they last more than a few seasons.

Actors with the most longevity are either rooted with a strong theater background or they have the looks/raw talent/big budget appeal to stay on top.

The heavy theater actors seem to move seamlessly between TV, film, Netflix etc, and always have SOMETHING going on. They struggle more early on but navigate better with time.

Those that start off doing commercials as kids and then land a TV spot? Seems like a harder path because they never refine their acting. The resume of "8 seasons on XYZ show" helps them at first. When they try to move onto bigger projects, they're competing with stage actors that didn't get the early break in TV but have been honing their craft on Broadway and in Europe for years.

It's because Stage actors can actually Act. and people have more respect for them.


If you wasn't into theater you'd probably think that Ms. Rashad wasn't working after the Cosby show wrapped. She was even the daughter who played Sandra did a lot of Shakespeare in the park stuff. And Actors get paid scale so if you did TV/Movie work you get more money and casting directors hire them because they have been on TV, Ms. Rashad is from Texas but she has a huge Black female fan base in DC. She does a play in DC and the auntie brigade will come out.


One other thing actors should do is to try to get job on an HBO show, they use the same people in a lot of movies Spike Lee and Scorcese uses the same people in movies all the time too.

Yeah the dude who played Prop Joe on The Wire was a theater actor in Baltimore, he coached a lot of the randoms they used on the show especially the kids. And yeah he was in a medical show on HBO despite him being kind limited to who he could play by being so fat.
