and that right there is what separates the casuals from the hardcore fans. Hardcore fans appreciate the technique. Casuals just care about the violence and highlights. Both styles serve their purpose.
Meh.
It's an elitist point of view.

I could get into the same arguments regarding any sport.
People here love home runs...they don't really care about 2-1 pitching duels.

It just is what it is.

You gotta be extremely nieve to think this is the only reason he draws as big as he does. :ld:

B-Hop & Toney talked alot of shyt too and were more over the top with it than Floyd and they couldn't sell any PPV's.

Floyd's drawing power is a result of a combination of factors...having a great selection of popular name opponents is one, the undefeated record is another. rivalry with Pacquiao, outside the ring antics, exploiting the blind nationalism of Mexican boxing fans and being p4p #1 and "the man" in the sport in the mist of a non-existent American Heavyweight scene helps as well... but a large segment of boxing fans, both casual and hardcore just enjoy watching the man box.

You think these ridiculous PPV and gate #'s in every outing are being put up by people that just want to see a boring fighter lose?

It's a combination of things...yes...that's true.

It's not primarily because they enjoy his fighting style, though.

you are wrong about that lol

the technical aspects of boxing is what keeps the long term fans

floyd was already a certified legend a more than a decade ago
long-term fans in any sport have never carried sports.
It's always been the casual fan...because the casual fan far out-numbers the die-hards.

Floyd (and boxing) doesn't care about the few hundred hardcore fans who show up to the weigh-in.
They care about the 50 million who tune in around the world 3 or 4 times a year.

from the home of coca-cola, i'm not referring to s
Floyds draw is being the heel and having the mexicans/spanish fans and the rest of his haters hoping Floyd gets his ass whooped and not wanting to miss the historic 1st loss..

Look at Rigo. Very respected in the boxing community, but cant seem to draw flys to shyt... theres a reason for that and it aint Arum

I think in due time the trend will start going the other way, back to defensive-minded fighting. Mayweather and Hopkins have already made it more fashionable to the next generation.

Imagine some cats with Pacquiao/Roy Jones Jr. athleticism (punching power and speed) with Pernell Whitaker/Hopkins/Mayweather defense. Could mke for some real nice finishes when somebody slips and one punch knockouts another fighter at an elite level.

you're wrong about that

first off you underestimate how many true boxing fans their our in the real, which shows your limited knowledge on the sport

Roy Jones for instance was never that popular, he was never a huge PPV fighter, but he made a lot of money fighting on HBO

Boxing is a worldwide sport is popular all over the world

casual fans ain't paying money to watch boxing they will watch it in a bar for free

do you know how much those seats cost to see a fight

Breh,
Having die-hard fans doesn't make boxing any different from any other sport.
But let me just clear something up here for a second...
I'm not saying I don't appreciate and acknowledge Bernard Hopkins and Floyd Mayweather's greatness. They absolutely are some of the greatest fighters ever.
But they're boring to watch.
I don't see how you could argue that the core lure of boxing is NOT it's brutality.
I mean all you have to do is study boxing's history. Fights used to go on until the death. Unlimited rounds, breh. You think this was because boxing's inherent beauty is the counter jab?
Let's be real now...

YOU will be a boxing fan no matter whom is fighting, probably. You appreciate the skill of it.
But don't sit here and tell everyone that when Floyd Mayweather fights Manny Pacquiao (assuming they do)...that when you're sitting in front of that massive HDTV...that you'll be surrounded by 15 of the biggest die-hard boxing fans in town.

It'll be you...maybe 1 of your boys who is another die-hard.

And 13 men and women who don't know the difference between a jab and a power shot...and whom really want to see some Gatti vs Ward kind of fight.

Let me tell you something son

Some of the most brutal boxing matches are the most obscure unknown matches, nobody ever talks about

the allure to boxing is the fighter themselves, it's the drama that plays out against two men in a FAIR contest man to man

you bring up gatti ward fight when casual fans don't even know who gatti and ward are, or how many times they fought

the reason why Guillermo Rigondeaux isn't popular is because he's 119 pounds, nobody has ever watched that weight class

Welterweight and up as always been the big money fights and weight classes, which is why Floyd never became a mega star until he moved up to WW

he was already a legend before that

You underestimate the amount of real fans boxing have, you're not speaking like an outsider trying to talk about something you know nothing about

a die hard fan is somebody who would go the boxer's gym to watch them work out and shyt like that

regular boxing fans are in abundance which is why the sport makes so much money even with non PPV fights

What money did he fukk up with Donaire breh?? Rigo's ratings sucked and he doesn't engage enough.. thats his style and its not attractive to the majority of boxing spectators ESPECIALLY at that weight... Rigo not willing to change or balance his style even though he's gifted enough to do so..

With his gifted skill set he should be knocking nikkas the fukk out or stopping them in that obscure weight class... he's not even attempting to do that (which is cool.):manny:..

Manny last stoppage was like 2008-2009, Rigo has had like 4 stoppages since then.

With Manny's gifted skillset he should be knocking nikkas the fukk out or stopping them since he is constantly dragging them up to his weight class.
