He's not wrong about a fighter not wanting to take abuse that could hurt him as the years go by.

But at it's very core, you'd have to be silly to think boxing's appeal is anything other than 2 men in the ring taking punishment.

You don't get to have it both ways, breh.

You either get appreciated for your evasion skills and get called boring.
Or you take that Arturo Gatti beatdown and gain legions of fans.

I'm being hyperbolic, I know.
But if Bernard Hopkins thinks the casual boxing fan WANTS to watch shoulder rolls and clinching, he's taken more abuse than I thought.

nikkas call Guillermo Rigondeaux boring, but i be sitting there watching his shyt like its Transformers. His precision and timing is just amazing :mjcry:

He's also a much better example of "pure" technical boxing without the cheap tricks, shortcuts and rule bending. :ld:

Ironically, 2 out of 3 of the biggest draws in the sport employ shoulder rolls & clinching as the primary weapons in their boxing arsenal. :pachaha:

People watch Floyd Mayweather because he's undefeated and outspoken, and because a large number of people want to see him lose...precisely because of his evasive "boring" boxing style.

The heart of boxing is not the artistic evasion.
It's the brutality.
Always has been since its inception 4,000 years ago.
Always will be.

You gotta be extremely nieve to think this is the only reason he draws as big as he does. :ld:

B-Hop & Toney talked alot of shyt too and were more over the top with it than Floyd and they couldn't sell any PPV's.

Floyd's drawing power is a result of a combination of factors...having a great selection of popular name opponents is one, the undefeated record is another. rivalry with Pacquiao, outside the ring antics, exploiting the blind nationalism of Mexican boxing fans and being p4p #1 and "the man" in the sport in the mist of a non-existent American Heavyweight scene helps as well... but a large segment of boxing fans, both casual and hardcore just enjoy watching the man box.

You think these ridiculous PPV and gate #'s in every outing are being put up by people that just want to see a boring fighter lose?
