99% of the hip-hop you hear now days is all totally uncleared. They just cross their fingers that the owner of the samples music either won’t find out, or roll realize that it’s almost always not worth pursuing legal action over.

In fact I think they just had to make a new beat for the Benny and Rick Ross song, possibly due to sample problems. On Spotify the current version is not the original version. Westside, Apollo Brown, Che Noir, and Skyzoo all recently got popped for uncleared samples.

I’m happy to explain in more detail because I used to work in the biz, and did some sample clearance stuff.

I totally agree...his style does not mix well with other artists aside from WSG, and Conway I say. They can't force shyt that does not go together.

I actually think Benny has better chemistry with 38 Spesh than he has with Conway, Gibbs, or West.

I appreciate this because if the project I'm doing blows up I can definitely see sample clearance problems. Even beats producers claim are sample free often have a sample. I can hear it with my amateur ear. Though I could be wrong lol.

You definitely are not wrong man. Almost everyone samples, even if they say they don't. And sometimes people even say they don't sample, and don't realize that a lot of the stuff in the kits they use still have samples.


I'm not trying to act like some wise monk or anything, but if I were you, I'd just make the kind of music that's authentic to you, and worry about the rest later. I'm sure you know this, but if someone actually comes at you for sampling their work, then you're 100% making some good moves in the game. They aren't ever gonna hear it if you aren't turning some heads to begin with.

It's one of those good problems to have, and I don't think it's a good idea to compromise on your art, just to avoid a problem that might not even be a problem. I'd say you've got the right idea to just deal with it if it ever becomes an issue.
