Oh mos def, Shouts to the Lo Lifes from BK. They were doing it heavy on the street level back in the late 80's. This thread is more so in regards to the music. But the thing about back then was rappers were getting their style from dudes in the streets. The streets dictated the fashion that the rappers emulated. Nowadays its the other way around.

Puba fathered so much shyt the rap game it's not even funny. Grand Puba may be a top 10 most influental rapper from a trends standpoint and that's from nearly 30 years in the game.

Exactly. The same way Eric B and Rakim or Kane did for bringing Hip Hop fashion to 125 st in Harlem with Dapper Dan, Puba introduced the Hip Hop game to Madison ave with Polo and Hilfiger.

I can't think of another rapper that set trends in the 80's, 90's, 2000's and today.

Well Dipset, to an extent, were setting trends for the kids coming up in the 00's. But as I said, back when I was coming up the dudes in the streets dictated the style for rappers to follow. Nowadays kids rocking whatever because they see their favorite rapper doing it, not because they genuinely like it (ie trends). Don't get me wrong, that's always been the case because all of us are influenced by someone's style, to a certain degree. But now it's just more blatant.

See you talking about shirts with just the horse symbol and all that. That's light weight. I'm talking about the suicide ski man jackets, P Wing Olympic apparel, Stadium Series line, Cross flag sweaters, Indian head sweaters, Bear sweaters, Polo sport snorkels, The Himalayas line, Rescue Expedition line, specific rugby pieces. Even certain series lines that Ralph drops. The meaning or purpose behind certain pieces. What location, origin, or era influenced Ralph to make this specific line? That's what I'm on. Regular shirts or sweaters with just the horse on it, even certain rugbys or boots, don't impress me. What impresses me is if you know how to dig deep into the collection. Not just grabbing joints that are out on front display at your local Macy's or Bloomingdales. You can spend 500 racks on RL a year. Okay and? lol That don't mean nothing. It's all about picking the exclusive pieces that no one else is up on.

Imo the grandfather of lifestyle rap that we see today all over blogs. one of my most surreal moments was waiting at a Stamford Metro North station after a job interview while listening to 2000, and seeing Puba a bit aways from me seated reading a newspaper. I've seen him quite a bit in CT on the metro north over the years, not shytting on him but dude must off the fashion shyt cuz he looked like he was hurting.

I know this is a Grand Puba thread, but this is the first song I think of when Polo and Rap are brought up.
