What's at the Movies this Labor Day Weekend? My ThoughtsRemember, y'all, Saturday is National Cinema Day, which has 3,000 domestic locations charging just $3 per ticket for all movies in ALL formats. That's nice for the Premium Large Format screens including IMAX and Cinemark XD.
We got Spider-Man: No Way Home — The More Fun Stuff Version back in 3,395 theaters with 11 extra minutes of additional scenes. It's looking at $4.6M for the weekend and $5.8M including Labor Day.
We got another "new" wide release with Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul coming to 1,880 theaters. It'll also be steaming on Peacock.
The summer's top gun, Top Gun: Maverick, expands to 3,113 theaters, as it looks go take first place with $5M in it's 15th weekend.
Beast, Bullet Train and Super Pets, all see deductions this weekend, while still showing at 3,000+ theaters. Projections are showing $3.5M for Beast and Super Pets and $4.3M for Bullet Train.
The Invitation looks to take $3.8M from the same 3,114 theaters as last weekend. It only did $6.8M in it's debut so let's see if that $3.8M number holds up.
Jaws, the original Summer Blockbuster, sees a re-release in 1,200 theaters, mostly in IMAX and 3D formats, which is perfect with Saturday being National Cinema Day. This is the second Spielberg movie re-released in the last few weeks, joining E.T. It's looking to do between $2-4M this holiday weekend.
Jurassic World Dominion drops back down 764 theaters after it had expanded to 1,521 theaters last weekend. Maybe it can do $500K?
I see Disney still has no shame with Lightyear being shown in 40 theaters, down 5 from last weekend.

No offense, but what does this have to do with the movie topic of discussion? Why are you posting these stats multiple times within a thread that has nothing to do with a movie? It's kinda annoying because it derails the thread and discussion about the actual topic of the thread. One time is fine, but you've posted 5-7 box office stat updates, and only 2 of them have any mention of the thread topic. I think you should like maybe create a thread just on box stats where you can update all you want, stay on topic, and not derail the thread.

Yup! Watched it last week and loved every bit of it. Had a better pay-off than X to me. Thing I love about this trilogy so far is that each film is dedicated to different sub-genres of horror. Will be interesting to see how Ti and Mia spin it for MaXXXine.Have you seen Pearl yet?

Maybe this is a post that nobody really asked for. I don't know. Talking about what movies will be playing at the box office in the box office thread, before I talk about the box office results on Sunday?
You be the judge.This weekend, the calendar flips to October. That means horror movies. And that puts a smile on my face. And maybe Smile will put a smile on your face. I saw the trailer when I saw Nope and I was like, yeah, that looks like something I'd watch. Paramount is releasing this in 3,645 theaters and is looking at a $19M opening. We got Kevin Bacon's daughter, A-Train and Turk from the Marvel Netflix shows, who was also the deputy in Stranger Things. I wrote this about his changing appearance over the Stranger Things' seasons in July:
I'm rewatching from the beginning and I noticed how they always switching up the breh deputy / sheriff's facial hair every season.
Season 1: Still holding on up top and rocking the chin strap.
Season 2: Covering up that bald spot with the hat and compensating with a fuller, scruffy beard.
Season 3: Still rocking the hat but now he done lined his shyt up on some trigonometry, isosceles triangle, Ryan Reynolds in Blade 3 / Amityville Horror shyt.
Season 4: He became the sheriff and that position of power gave him the confidence to come on home. Iont know why he had to get rid of the rest of his beard and rock the Al Powell mustache.

After being number one last weekend, Don't Worry Darling sees an increase of 8 theaters this weekend. It's looking to pull in upwards of $8M. It's got a 6.3 on IMDb so that's a :2stars: / :25stars: movie. That's not bad. Here's the thread, courtesy of @Optimus Prime:

The Woman King drops 261 theaters and the projection I saw has it doing $7.8M. I don't know about that. That's more than what they project Don't Worry Darling to do. Maybe there's a poll question there.
Universal has a new movie coming out
this weekend called Bros. I woulda thought Warner Bros. woulda released that but it was too far a bridge for even Zaslav to cross. It'll be a wide ass opening 
in 3,350 theaters and none of em are in Harlem. It's looking at about $9M. The extra zesty trailer:DC League of Super Pets is now on HBO Max but it's still in theaters after crossing the $90M mark.
Bullet Train will cross $100M, as it sits at $99.7M.
The other new release is The Good House, which stars Sigourney Weaver (also in the Avatar re-release) and Kevin Kline, who I ain't seen since Wild Wild West. 'Smile' cuz it's Mentally ill Hoes Before 'Bros': Weekend Box Office Results (Sep. 30 - Oct. 2)
The calendar has officially flipped to October. If you're a horror fan, rejoice.
There's a chill in the air. I can hear the leaves rustling in the wind. shyt, Michael Myers could be in the backyard watching me as I type this, as he hides behind the bed sheets drying in the wind. Let me look out the window right quick.*Peers over left shoulder*

Michael Myers may not be here yet. He's still hibernating in his basement, eating rats and shyt. We'll see him in a couple of weeks. What we can see right now is Smile, which just so happened to finish number one with a $22M debut.
That's a big number, especially when you look a lil deeper. Smile did $8.2M on Friday, with $2M coming from Thursday previews. This was the rare debut that grossed more on Saturday, as it pulled in $8.6M. Add in Sunday's $5.1M and you get that nice $22M bow. That's the best opening for a horror movie since The Black Phone opened with $23.6M in June. Paramount execs are smiling because it also grossed $14.5M oversees for a total of $36.5M. That was done on $17M budget. Not bad.
Now that I'm COVID free, I'd like to go see this on Tuesday. Gonna be sitting in the theater like
Taking second was Don't Worry Darling, with $7.3M. That was a precipitous 62.3% drop from last weekend's number one debut. And that was with a wider release of 4,121 theaters. Still, though, it's now up to $32.8M domestically and $54.7M worldwide.

Rounding out the top five was the Avatar re-release, with $4.6M, from 1,860 theaters. That was a 55.4% dropoff from last weekend. It's all gravy, though, for Avatar. The re-release has now grossed $18.5M domestically and $58M worldwide.

Notables Outside the Top Five
Indian epic, Ponniyin Selvan, grossed $4M in only 500 theaters. It wasn't even a wide release.
With $1.4M, Bullet Train, has now passed $100M domestically, with $101.3M. That's Summer Blockbuster status.
Top Gun: Maverick is still grossing over a million in it's 19th(

) that Jurassic World Dominion has finally crossed $1B. With $376M domestically and $624.8M internationally, it has now grossed $1,000,849,512. The dinos join Top Gun: Maverick as 2022's only billion dollar movies. All Jurassic World films have now grossed $1B+ worldwide. It's interesting that each film has grossed $300M less than the previous entry: Jurassic World: $1.6B, Fallen Kingdom: $1.3B, Dominion: $1.0B.
