That email trick wasn't working for me but I was putting it in wrong. I was using a zero instead of an 'oh'. Once I did the 'oh' it worked.

To keep from killing your battery on iOS with all those alerts go to settings and change the alert style to "none", "badges only" and remove it form the notification center and lockscreen
