2021 should be the year we see the release of Battlefield 6, if all goes to plan and the game doesn’t experience any delays we could be playing it before we know it. Of course, as we’ve seen with the likes of Cyberpunk, Hogwarts Legacy, and Far Cry 6, developing games during a global pandemic isn’t easy.

EA have planned for the game to released around christmas this year, and have promised
“never-before-seen scale” that will fully utilize the new technologies of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. For now though, nothing official has been announced so all we have to go off is
leaks and rumours.
Fortunately we have some reliable insiders to rely on when it comes to these leaks, Battlefield and Call of Duty insider
Tom Henderson took to his Twitter again to share a whole
load of new information on Battlefield 6 and if it’s true then we’re in for. real treat this year.
The information shared says that Battlefield 6 will take heavy inspiration from
Battlefield 3, arguably one of the best entries in the franchise, something he had already hinted at on Twitter a while back, but this time he shared that the new game will have massive
128-player battles, which is right on point with EA’s promise of “never-before-seen scale”.
As well as this, the new game will follow Call of Duty’s footsteps and return to its roots with a back-to-basics reboot, simply called
‘Battlefield’. While there’s no denying
Battlefield 1 was a great game, and
Battlefield V wasn’t a bad game either, two World War games in a row likely lead to a decline in the player base which is why they are looking to go back to current day setting with Battlefield 6.
The new game will be developed for
PlayStation 4 and
Xbox One as well as the new-generation consoles, with the older-generation versions being handled by a different team. For consoles playing on the older consoles they can expect
32 vs 32 player game modes,
limited destruction, and
graphical downgrades. It won’t be on the same scale as it will be on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Andrew Wilson EA CEO shared updates on the new game last year, although there was no mention of the old-generation version of the game so take those claims with a big pinch of salt. He did say however, that the developers at
DICE had been given an extra year of development to reach it’s
“true next-gen vision” of the game.
“We have rallied that entire studio around the development of Battlefield specifically,” Wilson said. “We’ve given them an extra year of development to ensure that they can, in fact, build a true next-gen vision around that game. DICE is one of the most talented studios on the planet, and we’ve been able to add leadership from our EA Sports business in David Rutter who understands both live services and the rigor of development. We’ve brought in talent from across the industry who have really bolstered our belief and our confidence in our ability to launch that game next year, so lots more to come in the next couple of months.”
