The trailer with Robin is showcasing multiplayer... you can play on Batman and Robin's team or a villain with 2 henchman's team. Basically its 3 vs 3 vs 2 meaning its an 8 player multiplayer game. Of course you'll do more damage playing as Batman, Robin or one of the big name villains than the henchman.

The story mode to my knowledge does not include Robin or multiplayer

this game was made by the B-Team. it looks like it's going to be more of the same with a multiplayer. i'll wait until reviews but it's definitely going to be a gamefly.

Black Mask has put a bounty on Batman's head. Deathstroke, Bane, Copperhed, Deadshot, and others are going for his head. I'm not sure how The Joker and The Mad Hatter will fix into all of this. But still, when you've got so many gunning for his head wanting that $$$, you're more than likely going to end up with a situation like this:

Deathstroke: I saw him first!
Bane: fukk what you saw first! He's mine!
Copperhead: Hey can I join?
Deadshot: Who the fukk are you?
Bane: No! Get the fukk out of here.
Joker: *kicks in the door* FOOD FIGHT!

So, of course, Batman and Robin have got to step in and stop this fukkery before innocent lives are taken.

Makes sense.

This sounds like a plot for a DC Comics animated movie that needs to be made

The fact more than half of the replies didn't know this was multiplayer is
I think your idea is slightly off too. Its either a 3 v 3 mode. Or a 3 vs 2 mode. 3 v 3 is joker type characters vs each other. 3 vs 2 is batman & robin.
At the end of the day, its basically a tweaked version of splinter cell's multiplayer in my expert opinion
