I got 4 moves...

the jordan/Kobe post shake n fadeaway.. I was literally a Jordan clone as a kid, always had that.

I added the euro step recently... I mainly play against cacs and I can easily get around em wit this

the derrick rose change of direction in the lane for the easy layup

and the Kemba step back

I dont really think you need many more than 4 solid moves

for years, i would to go to the park every single day, and hit back to the basket turn arounds. left shoulder. right shoulder. fading away. glass. that was my shot. every which way you could think of, i could hit it, and from about 10-15 feet, i was lights out with a fade away, turn around, bank shot. any further out, and you have to shoot the ball out of your hand a little harder, causing it to ricochet off the back board harder. you dont want that. you lose more control. but from about 10-15 feet, you can just kiss it off the back board, and let it drop into the basket like a baby being delivered. you take a little air out the ball, not saying i did, but let us suppose that i may have, and you are lights out going off the glass, because you reduce how hard the ball will ricochet. just dont tell anybody. i never liked the dirk wrong legged fade away. always thought it was a gimmick. you get so much more spacing the traditional way. the real way. now, these days, i notice the step back has really taken over as the go to shot over the turn around. speaking honestly, it is a much, much better shot. you get all the spacing, maybe more, than you would from a well spaced turn around, and it is so, so much simpler to preform. it is a must have in any skill set.

all you need to do, is press down and push off on your front foot, as you feel the ball coming back up to your hand. thats it.

the trick is you just have to feel when the ball is returning into your hand. thats how you time them.

Neither of these are step backs.

Those are side steps.

different angle. same movement.

No it really isn’t.

On a stepback you’re driving towards the rim hard, lowering your shoulder to sell the drive and you plant and and push backwards, away from the rim. You’re going to be squared up naturally because of the body angle of driving.

On most of the side steps, they’re done coming from a stand still or a hesi/in and out, so the shoulders are high. On the side steps, because you’re pulling up after moving laterally you also have to resquare your body during the step or as you’re going into your shot. You can see Dame’s right leg kicking out as he does this.

you can shoot a step back from a stand still and many step backs are somewhere between sideways and straight back.
