All sports but especially baseball really is a chess match, Barry was 2 steps ahead of Maddux this at bat. He knew exactly what GM was going to throw and he knew exactly where he was going to locate the pitch. Barry jumped on that inside cutter fast af, that’s a tough pitch to hit and BB was all over it

This wasn't super crazy to me, but I'm a big baseball fan who played growing up, so a lot of the pitch sequencing stuff is just logical when you understand what the pitches are designed to do
fair but why wasn't any other player clocking greg and sonning him like Barry did?

Barry sonned him on that one at bat but Greg killed him throughout their careers going against each other. Barry struggled with Greg

Either the offense would go cold or the bullpen would fukk it up... always something. At least they got a ring out of it

That Braves quartet was damn near illegal.... still can't believe they only won one. Maddux, Smoltz, Glavine, and Avery...... :banderas:

91’ and 96’ were years that they should have won it all but let them slip away.

The 91’ WS is the best series I’ve ever seen as so many games went to extra innings and ended off walk off hits. Atlanta had opportunities to win it all in the last 2 games, but they let them slip. Kirby made the famous catch which saved them in game 6. Lonnie Smith’s base running blunder in game 7 :snoop:

Still, even after Lonnie screwed up, they had runners on 2nd and 3rd with nobody out and their 3-5 hitters up. They should have scored regardless. David Justice also hit a ball in either game 6 or 7 that would have put them ahead, but it was about a foot foul.

Then in 96’, Atlanta won the first 2 games of the WS in NY. Then they lost the next 3 games at home and the Yankees won it 6.

The Yankees were simply better in 99’, but the Braves were in a great position in 96’ to repeat.
