I read a few pages when I was in the book store a week or so ago. It is on my to-get list.
But the bit that I read was about Cudjo, I believe, speaking about religion and how he and his people believed in god, knew there was one god, but didn't "know he had a son [Jesus]."
This has always been confusing to me. Islam speaks about Jews and Christians and their beliefs (and how, from Islam's perspective, they are incorrect), and Isa is mentioned in the Qur'an. Would it have been because of a language barrier that African Muslims encountering Christianity and the character of Jesus during slavery and colonization not recognized him, and also Christians in general?

The Dahomey Tribe were the largest slave traders on the west african coast. They also decimated Igbo settlements with their fukkery. Between them and the Arochukwu tribes, west africans had no chance.I’m listening to the Audible book and and so far it’s a hard and sobering read to hear about the African involvement.
The Dahomey was ruthless and evil.
Beheadings and waging war specifically to gather slaves to sell.
I’m 19% Benin/Togo and it just makes me upset to know what my ancestors went through at the hands of both Africans and white people.
This sadly is going to open up some wounds.
I had to stop listening - gonna pick up in a few days.
