People relate more with the people who struggled to get into wrestling through the indies vs the people who got everything handed to them based on looks/clout

Idk this might be a work but I still feel like this mentality is prevalent among the industry
That is a new way of thinking, because most of the biggest names of all time didn't struggle on the indies. It's a good story to put in a documentary, but it's not going to put asses in the seats. They've been trying to do the Daniel Bryan underdog story with all these indy guys, and it hasn't helped get any of them over.

If rapper A spent years grinding on the chitlin’ circuit performing raps in front of 40 people, finally gets his break and becomes a platinum artist

And rapper B never really planned on pursuing rap seriously, uploaded a song to SoundCloud and blew up overnight, becomes a platinum artist

Nothing aside from both being platinum artists actually matters. They both ended up at the same destination. The rest of the noise is really just noise. Who really gives a fukk who people aspire to be :hhh:

Are you nikkas successful or not lol

I don’t need to go work for a hot dog and popcorn in your local gymnasium.

:wow: You know Wrestling is in a BOOM period when not only do you get a Hot Dog, but Popcorn as well!

:wow: If they throw in a free Pepsi, then we talking about the Golden Era of Indy Wrestling.

A shoot interview, he's right about Gargano though. That guy don't belong in professional wrestling with his non-changing facial expressions. Go to straight to DVD cheap comedy flicks or something.... Gargano does not look like a damn wrestler.

I said I fukks with Roman years ago when most if not all of y’all hated him and said he was corny and not worthy of being champ only for him to become possibly the GOAT champ

Same with Corbin. I fukks with him. Not a fan of the somewhat goofiness of his current character but Baron Corbin is dope. Good in the ring, and low key got the most protected finisher in the biz. Plus he’s a dope heel who know how to get legit heat.

Just like y’all was wrong bout Rome y’all wrong bout Corbin :sas2:

Elite level athletes? Settle down. You were a D2 football player and didn't even make it out of training camp in your one and only year. John Cena is one of the greatest WWE wrestlers of all time and was a D3 football player.
The average D2 or d3 is still probably significantly more athletic than the average dude. Elite is maybe a stretch.

What sets you up better for wrestling success:

1. Elite athleticism
2. Mic skills
3. Amateur Wrestling Background
4. 5 years wrestling for the hot dog vendor in Reseda
5. Memeable gimmick
6. Having “the look”

I think you need two or three of these for any chance at popping. Idk if Corbin has any more than a half of one or two. Gargano has nothing but the hot dog vendor experience. They’re both in the same spot like others have said.

Yeah I was associated with a couple different D3 schools for like 16 years in varying capacities. There are always some people that have some high level raw athletic ability, but if they had true elite athleticism, a D1 very likely would have snatched them up at some point. Especially if it's basketball or track.

But alas, I don't think elite athleticism is required by any means. Of course it helps though. There are enough unathletic wrestlers that merely having good athleticism looks a lot better than it really is.
