there's plenty in spanish speaking countries like cuba, puerto rico and the dominican republic.
There's plenty in Africa :heh:
Jenkins states, "The prospect of a Black African pope understandably excites Christians of all political persuasions."[7] Even Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, three years before his own selection as Pope, labeled the prospect of an African pope as "entirely plausible" and a "wonderful sign for all Christianity."

The Archbishop of the Cape Coast was in the running against the current (Latino) Pope.

Why is the pope so important to people. I heard he is like the final boss of Catholics and he is the closest man to god but why and how?

The first Pope of the Church was the apostle Peter (one of the 12 disciples)
At that point in time, the Pope was literally the closest man to God.

However the papal and priestly succession (the laying of hands on those to bestow the power of God into the future leaders of the Church) is a highly contested and debated aspect of Christinaity.

If you are orthodox, and you follow the priestly succession, that means that every priest, bishop, deacon can trace back his handlaying at ordination all the way back to the apostle peter.

Because of this succession, the Pope is believed to not only be the closest man to God, not only to be the head of the Church, but to be the stand-in for Christ, Christ on earth.

I find it fascinating, I study this everyday.

Maybe. The county with the second highest Black population is the country with the highest population of Catholics.

Also, the second most senior position in the Anglican church is currently occupied by an African, so I can see it happening.
