At the time Carney may have been neutral or leaned more conservative hence why harper would have chose him, but that was some time ago. Clearly his political position has changed and he saw the opportunity to become PM by being a Liberal. People's political affiliations change all the time.

The same PM Harper you are quoting is also saying, "Carney’s experience is NOT the day-to-day management of Canada’s economy during the global financial crisis,”.

“I have listened, with increasing disbelief, to Mark Carney’s attempts to take credit for things he had little or nothing to do with back then. He has been doing this at the expense of the late Jim Flaherty, among the greatest Finance Ministers in Canada’s history, who sadly is not here to defend his record. But let me be very clear: the hard calls during the 2008-2009 global financial crisis were made by Jim,"
This was written in a Conserative fundraising letter. It’s obviously politically inconvenient to be running against a guy who worked for a Conservative PM in the past. I think the words written in the moment, with no political motive, are a far better source for what he thought at the time.

Anyway I anticipate there’ll be an election campaign by next week, so we can revisit this when we have a better sense of his platform.

I might have to bounce out of this country because I can't deal with another Liberal government.

And a minority Conservative government won't be able to do anything because all the other bytch made parties are running interference.

Man I'm really starting to hate this place.

Don't get me started on the Bloc Qubecois being able to run federally and wasting votes. And they have so many fukking seats.

Imagine telling a person from another country that a party that only runs on a platform for one state/province/parish competes FEDERALLY.
its pretty common. the UK, Germany, Spain etc all have parties that do this

Well
He's the PM once Trudeau formally submits his resignation, most likely in the coming weeks
Then Carney gets sworn in
Then Carney can call a snap election in advance of the scheduled Oct 2025 election
And
Yes, French is the second language here
I'm not familiar with Canadian politics, but if there is an election in October, why wouldn't Trudeau stay in office as a lame duck PM while this guy Carney runs for that position? Again, I'm ignorant on how your politics and elections go in Canada so please enlighten a breh.

im not canadian either but my guess is that its a better look if the party leader is already the PM and has some incumbency advantage. and trudeau is really unpopular right now so staying in would probably not reflect well on the party when people go to vote

He's stepping down for the betterment of the party.

He ran this shyt into the ground, immigration being a major pain point for most people.
