The biggest modern cultivar is flabby and sick anyway, due to massive production demands over the last century. Even if this fungus doesn't kill them, they gene pool is so weak it won't last until the next century, if not earlier. Bananas as we know them/grew up with them will have to be replaced by some new cultivar that will be different from what people are currently used to.
