The recent shootings prompted a march for peace from West Baltimore to City Hall Saturday. Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake met with Police Commissioner Anthony W. Batts and his command staff for two hours Sunday to discuss "adjustments" the department is making, said Howard Libit, a spokesman for the mayor. The Police Department did not respond to a request for comment Sunday night.

One man was shot in the head, and the other in the arm, in the double shooting just before 4 p.m. in the 2300 block of E. Preston St. in Broadway East, police said. The men were not identified, and neither man's condition was released.

Petting his Jack Russell Terrier and sipping a beer on his steps around the corner, Antonio Coleman, 52, said he grew up with one of the victim's fathers. He called him a "good kid" who "did not deserve that."

"He ain't into no drugs, no gangs, none of that," Coleman said.

Crime scene tape flapped in the breeze, tied to the door of J&R Deli and Grocery on the corner of Preston Street and Patterson Park Avenue.

Jose Guzman, the owner, rang up a pack of cigarettes for the store's sole customer and said detectives had come in to ask him if he'd heard the gunshots. He told them he hadn't.

"It kills a lot of business," he said.

In the other double shooting Sunday night, a man was shot in the back and a woman was shot in the thigh just after 8 p.m. in the 2100 block of Hollins St. in Southwest Baltimore. The Sunday night double shooting happened one block from Hollins and Payson streets, where a woman was killed in a shooting the previous afternoon.

Earlier in the afternoon, a man was shot multiple times in his abdomen just before 1 p.m. in the 900 block of Ducatel St. in Reservoir Hill, police said. He later died of his injuries. Anyone with information may call 410-396-2100.

Just after 11:30 a.m., another man walked into a hospital with a bullet wound to his arm from a shooting in the 800 block of W. Lexington St. in Poppleton, near the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, police said. Western District detectives are investigating, and anyone with information may call 410-396-2477.

In a shooting just before midnight Saturday, a 27-year-old man was found shot in the shoulder in the 1700 block of Normal Ave. in Darley Park, on the east side of the city. Anyone with information may call 410-397-2433.

None of the victims were identified. The injured victims' conditions were not released, and police did not provide information regarding suspects or motives.

Prior to the Saturday night shooting, police were investigating 11 shootings since Friday night — five of them fatal.

Man, woman, and child
nikkas getting bodied left and right these days for some reason. These kids out here don't value life. I kno one dude in particular who is choosing to hustle right now instead of work so he can go to his kids school everyday so they can feel his presence 24/7. That sounds ridiculous but he wants to make sure they aren't influenced by these other kids in school who don't have any father figures

"I haven't seen the police since the riots," Lee said. "People feel as though they can do things and get away with it. I see people walking with guns almost every single day, because they know the police aren't pulling them up like they used to."

Police Commissioner Anthony Batts said last week his officers "are not holding back" from policing tough neighborhoods, but they are encountering dangerous hostility in the Western District.

"Our officers tell me that when officers pull up, they have 30 to 50 people surrounding them at any time," Batts said.

"There was a shooting down the street, and the man was standing in the middle of the street with a gun, just shooting," Lee added. "Usually, you can't walk up and down the street drinking or smoking weed. Now, people are everywhere smoking weed, and police just ride by, look at you, and keep going. There used to be police on every corner. I don't think they'll be back this summer."
