Has more to do with population depression than trade relations.

It has everything to do with trade and cultural relations

Slave trade didn't force anyone to become Europeanized other wise you'd see more examples along the African Atlantic coast

No not at all. Nowhere else in Africa was depopulated to anywhere near the extent of Angola. Obviously much easier to assimilate European customs when you have most of your population shrunk and you become sparsely populated.

The government chose to follow Catholicism and speak Portuguese

I assume it's the current elites who we are talking about

People thought it was strange Angola's indigenous culture isn't as pronounced. When Angolans were initially trading with the Portuguese, they were still very much indigenous people. You don't see a shift until the population is depressed, the male-female ratio is offset, the inhabitants are put into forced labor, and then assimilation/miscegenation programs are put into place. This isn't some case of cultural exchange/appropriation via trade.

I need to do my research, I was under the impression that only the coast elites were Europeanized

Side note: I found this book in my closet, I had from a college course bout to reread it

No, from my understanding Portugal ran intensive assimilation programs for rural villagers to gain "first class citizenship" along with miscegenation.
