I think Frisco has the same kind of relationship with Larry June that DC has with Wale. Larry moved out of Frisco when he was four years old.
Moving across the country at that to a suburban area in Atlanta. You don’t really start developing memories until you like 6 years old. Larry June might have ran the streets of Frisco in the 2000’s as a grown lil nikka, but he not really city bred.
That is a fact. He downplay the fact he lived in an upscale part of ATL and he don’t rep Vallejo at all because he moved there as a teenager. Black C is his hood pass in Hunters Point because that nikka was best friends with Larry June’s pops.
In the history of Frisco rap, there isn’t really anybody like Larry June. He like a gentrification rapper. He made a name rapping about Whole Foods for god sake. He just come across as a spoiled lightskin nikka from an Atlanta suburb if we being 100. And I was born and raised in SF. My childhood coincided with the crack era and turf wars in the city in the late 80’s and early 90’s. June shot hella videos in my old hood including “Organic Tokens”.
99% of Frisco rappers from the 80’s to the present are a bunch of project babies hustling since birth off of underground hustle and pure street buzz, no Hollywood shyt. LJ music is smooth but he’s not as Frisco as he claims to be. That’s not hating, it’s a fact. He rep the shyt I lived through as a 39 year old nikka from Lakeview district but didn’t but live through himself like the early 90’s crack era in the city, 89’ earthquake etc.
