Preliminary autopsy results Monday did not reveal the cause of death of a woman who was found dead last week in a Longview motel room.
Investigators were still awaiting toxicology reports they said may shed light on the death of Bridget Diana Jefferson, 37, whose body was found about 8 a.m. Thursday. Investigators have said they are investigating the death as a homicide.
Jefferson, a mother of four, had a few arrests in Gregg County, including charges of criminal trespass and possession of a controlled substance. Much of her criminal history was in Harris County, where records show she had eight prostitution convictions and served about three years in jail.
Despite her history, her daughter said Monday her mother's mistakes did not justify her death.
"No one has the right to judge someone, especially if you don't know the circumstances or what kind of things a person has been through," said Stormy Cofer, Jefferson's daughter. "My mom had a really rough life. When she was 13 years old she was mentally and physically abused, and was forced to run away from home.
"She was forced to do things she didn't want to do her entire life. Somewhere along the way she just got addicted to the lifestyle."
Cofer described her mother as fun-loving, funny, smart, artistic and strong, and said she tried to find inspiration in every aspect of life despite her circumstances.
"She's not some dead criminal drug addict. She was someone's mom ... she was loved," Cofer said.
Investigators have said they are searching for people of interest and studying video footage from security cameras in the area of the room at Executive Inn & Suites, the motel in the 1900 block of East Marshall Avenue where Jefferson's body was found, to determine who was in and out of the room the day of her death.
Cofer said she was told one of those people was her mother's last prostitution client, a person she described as a 24-year-old "good boy."
"I was told that the man was with her just before she died, and when he was interviewed he said he got scared because she was using some kind of drug, used the excuse that he was going to find cigarettes in his truck and left her there," Cofer said. She said she didn't know if she believed his story.
She said her mom, a native of Atlanta, Ga., only lived in East Texas for about a year..
"My mom may have had a label on her, but her occupation was not really who she was. It took a long time for me to understand why she couldn't stop, but I have forgiven my mother for mistakes she has made," Cofer said.
Jefferson is survived by her four children: Cofer, 18, Caleb Jefferson, 12, and her 6-year-old twin boys, Dwight and Jacob Gentry.
Jefferson did not have custody of any the children, Cofer said.
Phone calls to Longview Police Department officials were not returned Monday afternoon.
Justice of the Peace B.H. Jameson said he was unsure when the final autopsy and toxicology results would be received.
