“Ruth really enjoyed barnstorming against the Negro League teams and was good friends with several famous players such as Satchel Paige. Buck O'Neal said, "I wish I could have been there when Babe Ruth pointed and hit the ball out of the ballpark in the 1932 World Series. I wish I could have seen that. But I did see something I admired just about as much, with Satchel Paige and Babe Ruth. This was in Chicago, after Ruth came out of the major leagues. He was barnstorming, playing with different teams, and he played us. Satchel was pitching and Ruth was hitting. Satchel threw Ruth the ball and Ruth hit the ball, must have been 500 feet, off of Satchel. Satchel looked at Ruth all the way around the bases and when Ruth got to home plate, you know who shook his hand? Satchel Paige shook Ruth's hand at home plate.
They stopped the game and waited, he and Satchel talking, until the kid went out, got the ball, brought it back and Satchel had Babe Ruth autograph that ball for him. That was some kind of moment."

Sarcasm is difficult to convey via text, especially if you aren’t familiar with the way in which the author writes. Obviously I know those aren’t his cousins, but the tone of the Twitter post didn’t come across as facetious.

I wouldn't say the title is sarcasm. I think it was a euphemism for saying "he's family" i.e black and the rest of the thread is just providing contexts around the question of his ethnicity, true or not. I think you are just reading too much into it. Or maybe I'm just not reading more into it.

My father had articles on this - I knew exactly where to look:

New Evidence Babe Ruth Was the First African-American Baseball Player

Omaha resident J. Anderson Cross Offers New Evidence Babe Ruth Was the First African-American Baseball Player in New Book to Be Released in September, In Time for Last Game at Yankee Stadium. |in NYC Sep 18-23

WHO: J. Anderson Cross, author of The Bambino Secret, reveals Babe Ruth's biggest secret.

WHAT: Babe Ruth's legacy in Yankee Stadium will be celebrated for the last time in September 2008 as the famous baseball stadium closes its doors forever. It may come as a surprise, however, to learn that one of America's greatest heroes carried a long-held secret. He was part black - thus invalidating Jackie Robinson as the first African-American major league baseball player. At least that's the theory behind J. Anderson Cross' upcoming The Bambino Secret (September 2008).

"Babe Ruth played baseball during a time when African-Americans were not allowed to play sports," says Cross. "There is no way the American public would have accepted him during that time period if they knew he was part black. The Yankee team businessmen knew this. They also knew they needed Babe Ruth and would have done anything to make sure that he continued to play the game."

"Considerable research was involved while writing this book," says Cross. "I traveled across the country to local historical societies, searched through numerous slave records and sought information from sources that I couldn"t have found in any library or through Internet research. I was in Abingdon, Virginia when I found the key link in a local handwritten journal entitled Colored Marriages from 1853 to 1859."

Ty Cobb actually wasn't on that :mjpls: like it's claimed.
He was racist as shyt. Later on in life when the old leathery skin evil b*stard was on his deathbed, he tried to clean it up bc he probably saw el Diablo or the grim reaper coming to collect his debt in cash. He claims that he wasn’t racist at black people, he has an “issue with all people not of the same social strata “
:mjpls:
Ty Cobb would pistol-whip black men he passed on the street. He once stabbed to death a black waiter in Cleveland just because the young man was acting “uppity.”

“Ty Cobb retired as baseball’s all-time hits leader in 1928 – the record stood for nearly 60 years. He was a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame’s first class. But despite his success, he was far from universally admired.
“Ty Cobb was was a racist. I threw him out three times and he quit. He said, ‘No ni**er gonna throw me out.’ But I said, ‘Haha. I’m throwin’ you out,’ so he left.”
Ted “Double Duty” Radcliffe told Bill Littlefield that one afternoon at Comiskey Park in Chicago in 1997. Radcliffe was a talented pitcher and catcher in the Negro Leagues from the 1920s to the ‘40s. He faced Cobb in an exhibition in Cuba.

Radcliffe wasn’t the only person to label Ty Cobb a racist. In biographies and magazine stories, Cobb has been accused of beating up black men, simply because they were black and handy.”

Above the fray.
I didn't get that they were saying that he (personally) would break the color line but that of him adding black players would break the color line.

Why do you say his daughter's quite is revisionist? Has she said other things before?

His daughter's comments in the NYT article that the Star Ledger quotes were meant to counter notions that the press and historians have written about him.
Ruth might have had an affinity for nightlife and entertainers, but he was a white man born in the 1890s.
Society and baseball have changed in the decades since Ruth's time. His daughter's attempt to portray his views as more in line with today's seems like blatant revisionism.

The front office signs off on acquisitions, trades, and farm teams/minor leagues for teams, not managers.
For example, it was General Manager Branch Ricky of the Dodgers who orchestrated Jackie Robinson going to that organization, not the manager.
Front office and ownership are the ones who would/could sign off on a team breaking the color barrier. If Babe Ruth was a good candidate to be a manager, he would have been hired. And front office would overrule any player moves they disagreed with.

His daughter is copping pleas for him.

Where It’s Not Safe
Lol that’s not a black man, that’s a cac with black admixture (10-20% at most)

Kinda like our version of white people, “white latinos”. There only white to us but next to an actual cac, u notice the olive tint, the thicker lips and the thicker, curlier hair. Basically Southern Europeans aka Off White cacs
full
them “almost white people” . Them & “white” arabs/northern africans.

ALOT of white americans have a black grandmother down the line I’ve even had cacs tell me this. There still cacs at the end of the day though

He seemed like an ok guy but dont put extras on it
