...but who was in charge, doe?
That's what's in question here...The Source was founded by White men, it had a gang of non-Blacks working there,
and it had as many non-Black Editors-In-Chiefs as it did Black ones.

u moving the goal post - breh

i replied to ur OP of u implying these magazines not having faces that identify with our culture
and da fact u posted several writers/editors as not being black whom happen to be afro latino - like they was never part of the creation of hip hop

BTW
d. mays & his partner j. shecter were the founders which i previously stated - what i left out was the 2 brothers that came in thereafter to get the magazine up & running had plenty of ownership in the company - j. bernard & e. young

pay him no mind. This is the part of The Coli where posters force this "Source was cacced out" narrative because they're secretly insecure their region didn't make classics (and hence get mics).

Hip hop journalism as a whole was way more black in the 90s than now. That's not even a debate.

:salute: FACTS

That's what editors are for breh.

Nah, that's what podcast are for. Reality is, these publications really want people who can form coherent opinion in writing. Rap nowadays is either people mouthing off but barely literate, or nikkas who are too "intellectual" that they're afraid of even calling shyt raps "shyt raps" – always tryna sit on the fence acting like "different strokes for different folks" bullshyt. I mean, gee thanks for stating the obvious, why am I reading your opinion piece again?

No - I didn't say anything about "culture"... the post of mine you replied to was that of the fact that if
most people saw who was working at these magazines they would be surprised. I maintain that.

My point of contention with you was The Source being "all-Black" and/or "ran by Black people". It wasn't totally.

James Bernard and Ed Young were offered ownership by Shecky and David Mays. The Source was conceived and started by two White men.
Those are facts.

ok.... my post rebutted that
atleast 90% of the staff back then were black & latino
and matty & info weren't black nor brown but by looking at them from that era them 2 looked as hip hop as can be

so, nobody that read the mag back and let's say.... stumble into there office, would be surprised at the entire staff

again, i shouldn't have said (ALL) but damn near all black
and u really not understanding that they ran the magazine as well, u really think 2 jewish kids from boston is gonna come to new york in the late 80's & know who to showcase, interview & place on their cover

James Bernard and Ed Young were offered ownership by Shecky and David Mays. The Source was conceived and started by two White men.

i said mays & shecter started it - and the fact that 2 jewish Harvard educated males offering 2 blacks ownership into their company proves my point

If y'all saw the faces of people who were working at these magazines throughout the years,
your jaws would drop open...

But we always knew they were white men and women.

I remember finding out The Tunnel was owned by a white woman
