But Patrick really isn't getting that spotlight.
His first year in the league, he was on a team with Zach and a few other young guys that had more attention. Patrick was looked at as somewhat of an after thought.
Last year, he was still in a position where everything he gave was a bonus because we had Zach/Demar and a top defense before everything went to shyt.
He's never had that role of being a top 5 pick on a shytty team that everyone is waiting on him to be a star and take the team to the promised land.
I don't think he's getting spotlight in the same vein as a Zion or Lamelo, and we're definitely not a team that has had high expectations in general. They were openly patient with him and still are.
But I do think it was understood that among all the moves, the difference between this team becoming good or great would hinge upon whether Pat becomes a guy or not.
They were comparing him to Kawhi Leonard after his first couple of preseason games, and they hyped that early Clippers matchup a few games into his rookie season.
That might not be big pressure for your average top young player who knows who he is, but for a guy you have to encourage to forget about his mistakes, being the first draft pick of the new regime probably weighs more.
