But are you from queens though? :mjpls: But hey, I ain't mad at you. Ive disowned the yanks til Arod is gone. Purple lips and all he represents ruined the team for me.

Nah, I'm from Brooklyn. I heard a lot of the older heads who rooted for the Dodgers when they played in BK became Mets fans when the Dodgers left for LA.

So a Mets fan from BK isn't that uncommon I'm assuming. :ehh:

Brooklyn, New York
History Lesson of Tri-State(Downstate NY, Northern NJ, and Western CT, Sometimes Northern PA) and Sports

19th Century

  • Modern Baseball invented in NY
  • First College Football Game played in NJ
  • Basketball in MA (Not in Tri-State but in Larger Northeastern Region)
  • Hockey in Canada
  • Soccer in England
  • National League established and had two teams in two cities in the State of New York(New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers - Modern NYC not founded til 1898)

20th Century

  • American League introduce team the NY Highlanders(Yankees) and they play in Manhattan
  • Yankees moved from Manhattan to The Bronx
  • NFL was founded and Giants play in Manhattan
  • NHL was founded and Rangers play in Manhattan
  • NBA was founded and Knicks play in Manhattan
  • Giants and Dodgers move to California
  • Yankees become only regional team til 1960(Mets)
  • Giants were only consistent regional team around the Tri-State and New England til 1960 (Jets, Bills, and Patriots)
  • Mets founded and play in Queens
  • Jets founded and play in Queens
  • Nets founded and play in Long Isand
  • Islanders founded and play in Long Island
  • Yankees, Giants, Rangers, and Knicks threaten to move to Jersey(Taxes) only the Giants moved
  • Nets moved to Jersey
  • Devils founded and play in Jersey
  • Jets move to Jersey

21st Century

  • They all have gotten new sport venues except for MSG (which is getting renovated and Nassau which is trying to get renovated)
  • All arenas are accessible by trains the other choice of travel by NYers (45%)

It "used to be" that you would root Yankees and Giants together and Jets and Mets together because the former played in Yankee Stadium in The Bronx and the later played in Shea Stadium in Queens. Everybody rooted for the Knicks and Rangers because they were the only teams in the area. It was later extended to Yankees/Giants/Rangers/Knicks vs Mets/Jets/Islanders/Nets.

It's that reason why Long Island was/is heavily Mets/Jets/Islanders/Nets and why Manhattan/Bronx was/is heavily Yankees/Giants/Rangers/Knicks this doesn't factor success of the teams pressure/guidance from family and friends and the increase of technology in perception of teams and players (ESPN, MSG Network, Internet, Video Games, etc.)

The More You Know . . .

jets fans reside in long island upstate ny

giants fans north east jersey and the city

but honestly there really isn't a geographical divide like the yankees mets

i mean for crying out loud the teams play in the same stadium...in the 90's though it felt like ny media paid more attention to the jets for some reason but that was probably because of Parcells and my giants had awesome qbs like Dave Brown and Danny Kanell...smh

Growing up I liked the the Giants and the Bills. That Superbowl coupled with the fact that the Bills were a damn punchline all those years eventually turned me into Giants only. The jets were always :scusthov: to me I don't know why.

My pops fukked with the niners , Lakers, and Yankees. So he didn't have any influence over my allegiances....its knicks, giants, mets in that order. Knicks are my heart though :to:

Jets and giants are always the double header in NY. I grew up watching both. I went through the ray hanley era and rich kotite era. :sadcam:

No one fan should have all that sadness....

I go for both but if they ever met in the Superbowl,I'd go for the jets cause haven't been there in forever.

my dad's a big baseball fan.. he's more into the mets but he roots for both mets/yankees so i'd catch both teams on tv when i was a lil kid.

the reason i picked the yankees was that the mets broadcast kept calling it "mets hardball" and i thought that shyt sounded stupid.

:manny:

donnie baseball too :krs:
