All kinds of ways to get it done, but you must remember...they are sponging any and everything. Yes, these are 'kids', but they are kids who eventually become adults. Don't let them being 'kids' get you into the frame of mind of treating them as less than or even constatnly talking to them like they're unintelligent, they are wiser than you think.

Even adults in this day and age get overwelmed, overstimulated and start shutting down mentally when there's so much information to process, kids are on that setting til they get past being a toddler really so be considerate. He's establish the patterns of what you say to him and what to do but as I said...attention is wideeeee open.
If you want him to listen, you need to narrow his focus for him. Get eye level with him if you can, and talk softly, even whisper if you want to be silly. Yellling at kids trying to control them from outside of their sphere of awareness is usually a losing battle. Getting up close, having a hand on his back or head makes contact and gives him something to focus on besides all the colors and shapes he's getting aquainted with.

Shyt just comes natural for me...
I'm always easy going and laid back so when the kids are tripping I'm chilling...most times if you're calm and relaxed with your kids they respond well.
The more love you show them the more they can sense they're surrounded by love.
Plus, I'm a veteran of this shyt. I can change a diaper, attend my 14 year old's track meet and post on the Coli all at one time.
