Whether you liked them or not Selma and 13th were of a certain standard in comparison to the shoe string forgettable projects she did before. Her trajectory was headed upwards with unspoken rule being black first. I thought she was going to be the director the streets asked forCare to elaborate? I'm intrigued.
Now with hindsight obviously it's not the recipe of a long career to go all in doing that (see spike lee) however I didn't expect her to be doing a big budget flick with Chris pine all over it this early.
Queen sugar seems no different than middle of nowhere or I will follow so I am left asking myself is she TLC/OWN tv director, director for hire or an auteur

Gotcha.
Her projects don't really appeal to me, but good for her to make movies that give black women a chance to be three-dimensional characters.
