Austin Reaves over his last ten games: 27/5/6 on 53/38/96 shooting, why isn’t he the front runner for M.I.P of the year?

MAXEY WENT FROM
17.5 TO 20
THE YEAR BEFORE HE WON.

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT
YOURE EVEN TRYING
TO ARGUE AT THIS POINT

Lauri's MIP was much deserved just going off of the raw numbers and their increase from the year prior to him winning it. I quoted your post referring to Lauri.

All I'm saying is, the MIP Award now is typically going to more established players than guys that come out of nowhere with great years.

JA AND INGRAM
ARE REALLY THE ONLY ONES
IN THE LAST 10 YEARS
THAT I WOULD ARGUE AGAINST.

The position he was drafted is largely irrelevant (both Ja and B.I. have won it in recent years).

He averaged 23 ppg last season and increased that to 26 ppg (top-10 scorer this season), all the while maintaining the same efficiency
He averaged 7 assists last season and increased that to 9 assists
He averaged 4 rebounds last season and increased that to 6 rebounds.

If box score stats are your measurement for the award, then you can't say he doesn't have a valid argument.

The fact that he's anchored Detroit to having one of the biggest turnarounds in modern NBA history only furthers his case. If that's not a representation of improving, what is?

That's a team accomplishement that has nothing to do with the award. It's not the MVP award. Look at the previous winners and their prior seasons. Cunningham's season really doesn't compare.
Ja went from 19ppg to 27 while shooting 50 perecentage points better from the field and from 3.
BI added 5points to ppg average while improving3pt% 39% from 33% and ft% 85% fromn 67%

What I'm trying to explain to you is, because voters see the improvement of the Pistons, they're naturally going to gravitate towards developing (or layering) a narrative about why they've improved, and because Cade is seen as the face of the team, it only makes sense he benefits from that in something like the MIP race. Becoming an All-Star for the first time, certainly helped pushed that narrative even more.

You can't compare what Cade is doing to players from previous seasons because he's not competing against them.

I only talked about Ja and B.I. as it relates to their draft positioning.

More to the point, who has a better argument than Cade if we're going off the standard of previous winners?

I understand the reasoning, I just disagree with it in principle. He's not the "most improved player". He was nice last year the team just sucked and yes he's better, but that's what's expected from a #1 pick in his 4th year. It's not like he wlooking like a bust until this season.

Braun more than doubling his scoring output while moving into a starting role and shooting 57% from the field is way more deserving imo. I thought he was a fringe rotation guy and he's putting up better numbers than D'Angelo.:russ:

Braun is nice, but role players typically don't get the vast majority of votes for MIP.

Look at all the players who've won the award in recent times, they're all been #1#2 options, not guys who are a complementary piece on offense. If you have a problem with the reasoning behind why someone like Cade will likely win, then you probably need to havve a problem with how MIP is awarded, in general, because it's really no different to any other season.

I get it, it's par for the course now. I'm old enough to remember Issac Austin and Darrell Armstrong winning it, now it goes to lottery picks.:yeshrug:

Cade quadrupled the pistons win total .. the second offensive option is Malik Beasley

Coming into the season there was debate if he was even top 50 player .

His play switched the narrative from guys like Scottie Barnes and Lauri Markanen being better to him being an All NBA caliber player .

Draft status from 4 years ago means nothing

None of this screams Most Improved Player at all

If anything, it means JB Bickerstaff should be Coach of the Year, and Cade should be getting MVP votes
