Former American football star-turned-actor Terry Crews has become the first African-American star to offer embattled Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling support after the sports boss became one of the most unpopular men in the U.S. following a racial controversy.

Sterling hit the headlines last month (Apr14) when audio of him making remarks about African-Americans went viral. The ill-advised comments prompted an immediate backlash and the 80 year old was fined $2.5 million (GBP1.6 million) by officials at the National Basketball Association for the remarks. Bosses at the organization are also trying to force Sterling to sell the team.

Sterling has since apologized for his remarks in a CNN interview with newsman Anderson Cooper and now The Expendables star insists Sterling should not be forced to sell his team for regretful comments he made to an ex-girlfriend. He says, "We need to forgive Donald Sterling... Who here is not guilty of saying something in anger...? I've said things about my family, my wife, my kids that, if you record it, you would think I was the devil himself. "I don't think they should yank the team from him. The world has become so politically correct, no one is able to say anything anymore and it's ridiculous... People can say something by mistake and now they can have their business yanked... it's a dangerous precedent." Crews is in the minority - Whoopi Goldberg, Spike Lee and Queen Latifah are among the African-American celebrities who have publicly attacked Sterling for his comments.

Damn, not Terry :damn:

...but I see where he's coming from but it's still :pacspit: a sterlynch

Basically...the general sentiment is fine, but Sterling is the wrong person to defend. His comments aren't the issue. His actions over the last 20 years were calculated and overtly prejudiced against certain minorities. Nothing about that is forgivable.

sounds like Terry needs to get some help :mjpls:

He also needs to realize that forgiveness is fine, but forgiveness doesn't exclude punishment.
You can steal from a store and apologize sincerely after you get caught, that doesnt mean they're not gonna have you arrested or press charges.

Furthermore, who wants to go bust their ass in the off-season and during the season when the person paying you(albeit millions) looks at you like a literal slave? Who wants to shake his hand while he smiles in your face or pats you on the back? :childplease: And this is bigger than black/white b/c it's about green now, and how much could be lost due to Sterling's affiliation.

how?

The paperwork isn't complete. He still making money off the team. Signing it over to his wife  ? His wife that he's still married to lol

this isn't going to end overnight therefore, if he still generates revenue from the franchise he is still winning.

Exactly

Until the Sterling’s aren't making money off the team than they still have the power and money. Not old money but money thats being generated as we speak.

The only losses they've taken thus far are the ones that involve sponsors deflecting. Thats it..

Crews is spot on here. You can't even say anything any more. You can't express your views on anything because it's bound to offend somebody and people will demand retaliatory actions against you. We've gone from one extreme to the exact opposite and neither extreme fixes anything.

If you're in a major sports league and you say you don't agree with homosexuality for example it's some type of penalty and fine. you can't have a dialog about things and even reach a level of tolerance or understanding when everyone has to hid who they are in fear of offending society.
