He's just on there b/c Chernoff couldn't make it in from his home in Woodstock. Chernoff low key >>>> in ATL sports radio, he's not going anywhere. Him & Chuck got the best show in the city

I don't really like Zinno's tryout of a morning show while nick and chris are on vacation. I liked it better when he hosted morning with hugh, he need a solid counterpart on the mornings, none of them jokers he got is going to work, didn't the fan have Bob whitfield on payroll for a minute, why don't they try that out

Zinno works best with somebody who can crack jokes or keep it light while he's on air. He's too negative...people ain't tryna hear that negative shyt in the mornings, people want to be entertained/informed at that time

Bob Whitfield has a segment with Nick & Chris on Friday with them but it's like 5 minutes long. He'd be solid in the morning tho

He's still very much so doing a night show. You can't be that lethargic in the morning. I understand if it's after a game (Monday, Thursday night, etc). Dude sounds like sports NPR in the morning.

lol @ sports NPR. Yea that's a good way to put it. Zinno's a good fill in but he really sounds old & angry all the time. The best shows on 680 are the ones that keep it light but still have good opinionated sports talk (i.e. Mornings with Nick & Chris and Chuck & Chernoff). Zinno can't do that by himself or anytime earlier than 7pm

The Fan 2 (1230/106.3) becomes The Sports X; ‘Hometeam’ Brandon Leak gets a show

January 5, 2018 Radio.

Radio name changes are in the air. In just the past month, we’ve seen Radio 105.7 become Alt 105.7. Then Old School 87.7 turned into Mix 87.7.

Now the Fan 2 has become The Sports X AM1230/106.3.

Owner David dikkey is building a second sports talk station with original local hosts, piece by piece.

He said that he changed the name to sound younger, hipper, with an edge and “X” already has an image in town for that feel thanks to 99X.

The station recently added former 92.9/The Game host Mark Zinno to the line up in the afternoons. This week, long-time sports host and producer “Hometeam” Brandon Leak was paired up with Joe Hamilton, a former Georgia Tech quarterback.

dikkey, who has known Hamilton for 20 years, is excited by the chemistry of the pairing. Their show started on Monday and airs 9 a.m. to noon.

“Radio has afforded me an awesome opportunity to meet so many good people and to now interact with the public on a daily basis is a dream come true,” wrote Leak to me via Twitter. “Many years of hard work are paying off, with more to come.”

He is psyched to work with Hamilton, “a new friend and … one of the of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of Atlanta football. We look forward to making and leaving a legacy in sports radio and Atlanta sports. We look forward to having a fun show that will serve, entertain and inform the city and the Atlanta community for years to come.”

Chuck Oliver also hosts a solo syndicated show heard on 41 stations in the Southeast that airs from noon to 2 p.m. He is a long-time afternoon host with Matt Chernoff on the Fan as well.

dikkey said the Sports X’s target audience is 20 to 40 compared to 35 to 55 for his primary station 680/93.7 The Fan. He is aware not a lot of folks in that demo listen to AM and the AM/FM signals are fairly limited anyway. He expects over time more fans will choose to simply stream the station.

You can listen to the station on TuneIn here.

Diceky had tried Larry Wachs and a revamped Regular Guys for a few months last year but felt it didn’t fit the station.

All black sports talk in the AM now :leon:

GT aside Joe has been a good dude when I’ve been around him.

Sounds like an avenue for Bird Brehs (@AVXL, @Motife43) and Lack of Insitutional Control (@portcityplaya, @Sherminator, @Lucky_Lefty)

Joe's a great guy...even when we were losing to Tech on a regular basis he was still one of the best QBs I've ever seen at the college level. Great player

Only problem with the 106.3 situation is the signal is trash. Hopefully it's fixed by Monday but I'm in Buckhead and the signal was going in and out :francis:

Hometeam has been an ATL radio fixture for a minute, I'll definitely support him on this venture :salute:
